Abstract:
An article includes a flexible structured film with a first major surface and a second major surface, wherein a first major surface of the flexible structured film has a plurality of posts separated by land areas, and the posts have an exposed surface. An anti-biofouling layer resides in the land areas, and the anti-biofouling layer has a methylated surface. An inorganic layer is on the exposed surfaces of the posts, wherein the inorganic layer includes a metal or a metal oxide. An analyte binding layer is on the inorganic layer, wherein the analyte binding layer is chosen from a reactive silane, a functionalizable hydrogel, a functionalizable polymer, and mixtures and combinations thereof. An exposed surface of the analyte binding layer includes at least one functional group selected to bind with a biochemical analyte.
Abstract:
Described herein is a dicarboxylic acid compound of formula (I): Wherein: R3 comprises an aryl group, R2 is an alkylene group comprising to 6 carbon atoms, n is 0 or 1, R1 is H or CH3, and X is S or NZ, wherein Z is H, an alkyl group comprising to 4 carbon atoms or a phenyl group. Such compounds can be used to modify the surface of inorganic particles. These modified inorganic particles may then be advantageously used in polymerizable resins to increase the refractive index of the resulting composite, while enabling good flow properties of the polymerizable composition

Presently described are components of a spray application system. At least one component comprises a liquid repellent surface layer. The liquid repellent surface (e.g. layer) may comprise a porous layer and a lubricant impregnated into pores of the porous layer; a fluoropolymer; a fluorochemical material and an organic polymeric binder; or a fluorochemical material melt additive and a thermoplastic polymeric material component. The component is typically a liquid reservoir, a liquid reservoir liner, a lid for a liquid reservoir or liner, or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, the component comprises a thermoplastic polymeric material. In some favored embodiments, the component is a removable liquid reservoir or liner. In some favored embodiments, the component is a collapsible liquid reservoir or liner. The spray application system typically further comprises a gravity-fed spray gun. Also described are spray application systems, methods of using a spray application system, as well as methods of making a component of a spray application system wherein the component has a liquid repellent surface.
Abstract:
Compounds having hindered amine and oxyalkyl amine light stabilizers can mitigate the adverse effects of actinic radiation, such as visible and ultraviolet light, on polymers and copolymers. Polymers and copolymers derived from such compounds. Articles, such as coated articles and molded articles, containing such polymers or compounds.
Abstract:
Articles having poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and silica nanoparticle multilayer coatings are provided. More specifically, the articles include a substrate and a multilayer coating attached to the substrate. The multilayer coating includes a silica layer that is the outermost layer, the silica layer containing acid-sintered interconnected silica nanoparticles arranged to form a continuous three-dimensional porous network. The multilayer coating also includes a PVA layer disposed between a surface of the substrate and the outermost silica layer. The PVA and silica nanoparticle coatings can be used on a large variety of substrates and tend to be resistant to impacts, scratches, wet abrasions, soil and fog.
Abstract:
Polycarbonate polymers comprising non-aromatic cyclic groups bonded with carbonate linking groups are described. A portion of the non-aromatic cyclic groups comprise a substituent having siloxane repeat units. Representative formulas of the substituents having siloxane repeat units include —CH2—CH2—Si(R4)2—(OSi(R4)2—R5, and —CH[Si(R4)2—(OSi(R4)2)m—R5]—CH3; wherein m is the number of siloxane repeat units; and R4 and R5 are independently alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or aralkylene. The polycarbonate polymer C typically comprises a high concentration of carbonate linking group, for example in an amount of at least 85 or 90 mol % or greater N based on the total linking groups of the polymer. Also described are compositions comprising the polycarbonate polymer and methods of making.
