Abstract:
A door stop and method which insures damping of the inertia of a swinging door without damage to either the door or the door stop, the door stop comprising a static member mounted to a wall or a door and a dynamic member having a hollow body which reciprocably receives guide structure of the static member, the dynamic member also comprising a bumper which upon engagement with the door or the wall causes reciprocation of the two members.
Abstract:
Apparatus for determining whether a liquid in a liquid reservoir is above a certain level includes suction means operable by a user to create suction when the user desires to determine if the liquid in the reservoir is above the certain level, a conduit extending from the suction means and adapted to be positioned in the reservoir so that a passage in the conduit which communicates with the suction created by the suction means opens into the reservoir above the liquid therein when the liquid is below the certain level, and indicator for indicating whether or not the passage in the conduit is opening into the reservoir above the liquid therein. The indication that the liquid is above the certain level is given by either observing that liquid is being drawn into the passage or that the passage opening is closed. This may be done by observing the liquid itself in the passage or an indicating reservoir, or observing the operation of the suction means which given an indication of flow into the passage. The apparatus may be used to replace the normal dipstick used to measure liquid levels, such as oil level in an automobile engine.
Abstract:
A liquid level indicator for use in monitoring the level of fluid in a reservoir remote from the user is disclosed. The indicator includes a receiving tube adapted to receive a quantity of fluid having an elevation reflective of the oil in the reservoir. The fluid is then confined by a reciprocating closure tube. A piston member is then depressed into the confined oil pressurizing that oil until an equilibrium position is obtained. The piston head is held in a constant spaced relationship with an indication element which is remote from the fluid reservoir. The amount of displacement of the piston head within the receiving tube is reflected by reference indicia carried by the indication element to indicate the level of fluid within the reservoir.
Abstract:
An athletic shoe with a force responsive sole includes a first sole portion (110) having a multiplicity of projecting cleats (20), a second sole portion (12) with corresponding apertures (22) to receive the cleats (20). In one embodiment, a resilient membrane (14) is positioned between the sole portions and normally covers the apertures (22) so as to hold the cleats (20) separated from the apertures (22) in a rest position. A correspondingly apertured guide plate (15) is provided between the first sole portion (10) and the membrane (14) in the apertures (26) of which the cleats (20) are positioned to restrict transverse relative movement of the two sole portions (10, 12) and to maintain the cleats (20) in alignment with the apertures (22). Under force applied by a foot in the shoe, the cleated first sole portion (10) moves toward the apertured second sole portion (12), stretching the membrane (14) as the cleats (20) move into the receiving apertures (22) of the second sole portion (12), with the membrane (14) resisting such movement to thereby provide cushioning and to provide rebound force. In other embodiments, a composite membrane (92, 94) made up of a number of individual membranes (92) in a carrier frame (94), or a series of resilient bands, such as O-rings (116), constitute the membrane to provide the resilience for the sole.
Abstract:
A permutation lock assembly incorporated into a door knob and latch mechanism mountable in the standard openings in conventional swinging doors, using conventional door latch hardware. Rotation of an outer dial in a first direction causes rotation of an inner dial which is visible through a window until a number on the inner dial appears at the center of the window. Upon rotation of the outer dial in an opposite direction until a number thereon is aligned with a center mark, the door is unlocked and may be readily opened. When the proper combination is known, the combination may be changed, within a few seconds, from one combination to another. Also incorporated is a clutch device in the external knob that permits the knob to turn in either direction when the door is locked and excessive force is applied, thus preventing damage to the assembly.
Abstract:
A toy bomb device includes a disarming apparatus installed in a simulated bomb device body. The bomb device is armed to start a timer which times a preset time period in which a player has to properly operate the disarming apparatus to disarm the bomb device before the bomb detonates at the end of the time period. The disarming apparatus may take the form of a spring biased member having a pin extending therefrom that must be seated on a holding land to disarm the bomb. The bomb may be included as part of a board game where disarming the bomb is required at various stages during the game.
Abstract:
In a device for indicating the level of a liquid in a reservoir of the type which has a liquid receiving area to be positioned partially within the liquid in the reservoir, a liquid confinement tube within the liquid receiving area which may be moved from a liquid unconfining position to a liquid confining position when it is desired to measure the level of the liquid in the reservoir, a piston within the liquid confinement tube coupled to an indicator located outside the reservoir such that movement of the indicator causes movement of the piston within the confinement tube, the amount of movement of the piston and indicator indicating the level of fluid within the reservoir, and a spacer tube determining the length between the liquid receiving area and the indicator, the improvement of making the device adjustable over a range of lengths. To make the device adjustable, the spacer tube is length adjustable and may include telescoping tubes, and the coupling between the piston and indicator is also length adjustable, the coupling being released while adjustment of the spacer tube takes place. It is also preferable to secure the confinement means in unconfining position during the adjustment of the device. When the device replaces a dipstick in a liquid reservoir, the invention includes a method of adjusting the length of the device by aligning portions of the device with corresponding portions of the dipstick.
