Abstract: In a reversible fluid power transfer package, sensing means detect which of two mechanically interconnected fluid pressure translating devices is required to operate as a pump and which is required to operate as the motor. In response to a signal from the sensing means, dual-functioning check valve-flow limiter components associated with each device are ported according to the required mode of function of the respective device, so that whichever device is to operate as the motor is automatically provided with a flow limiter valve, and whichever device is to operate as the pump is automatically coupled to a check valve on its outlet side. The check valve may incorporate variable bypass features.
