    Abstract: A powered tailgate opening system having object collision protection is disclosed for reducing the risk of collision with an object during opening of the tailgate. The opening system has an object distance sensor to sense a distance to an object during movement of the tailgate and an opening angle sensor for sensing an angle of opening of the tailgate. A memory stores limit distance values which vary according to different angles of opening of the tailgate and a controller controls a tailgate movement drive mechanism according to a determination of whether a sensed distance at a sensed angle of opening is less than the stored limit distance value for that sensed angle of opening.

    Abstract: A microcontroller is provided with a plurality of slave drive units for driving peripheral devices. Individual speed units are provided that have serial shift registers, multiplexors, and duplex data communication connections with individual serial registers of respective slave drive units of a series chain. In a first cycle or mode, a serial data connection between the serial shift registers of the speed units causes data to be serially communicated, at a first relatively faster pulse rate, from the microcontroller into the data input of the series chain and to the microcontroller from the data output of the series chain. In a second cycle or mode, for each pair of single speed unit and slave drive unit, the duplex data communication between the serial shift registers of the pair causes, at a second relatively slower pulse rate, data to be serially communicated in parallel therebetween.

    Abstract: Vehicle ground connection diagnostic apparatus including voltage sensors for sensing the voltage on each of a plurality of ground connector lines, each providing a conduction path from an electronic control unit to ground.     Abstract: Communication circuit for bidirectional communication. A switching part is provided including a first BJT having a first base, a first collector, and a first emitter connected to an IO line. The first BJT is activated in response to an input data signal. A transmitter part is provided including a second BJT having a second base connected to the first collector, and a second collector connected to an output. A receiver part is provided comprising a third BJT having a third base connected to an input, and a third collector connected to the first base and to the IO line. A diode is provided in the IO line for impeding current associated with an input data signal and conducting a current associated with an output data signal.
