Abstract:
An electrical cable stock feeding device successively plays out measured lengths of cable from a supply reel. The played out stock is held in a lengthwise fixed position by a pair of clamping jaws; the measured cable length is cut from the fixed stock by a pair of blade assemblies; and the cut cable length is engaged by a pair of gripping jaws. The blade assemblies not only cut the stock but also the insulation at the adjacent ends of the remaining stock and of the cut cable length. The cut insulation is stripped from the free end of the remaining stock by movement of the blade assemblies away from the clamping jaws, and the cut insulation is stripped from the trailing end of the cut cable length by movement of the gripping jaws away from the blade assemblies.
Abstract:
A stepwise advancing conveyor moves parallel fiber optical ribbons successively sidewise into endwise alignment with a ferrule attaching unit which during short periods of temporary standstill of the conveyor attaches a ferrule to the free end of each successive ribbon. Subsequent advance movement of the conveyor aligns the ribbon and attached ferrule with a cutting unit which trims the ferrule and ribbon end therein so as to provide the ribbon with a plane, light admitting and emitting end face.
Abstract:
Automated measuring, cutting and conveying equipment provides successive lengths of fiber optical ribbon and advances them step by step to automated processing equipment which during successive periods of temporary standstill of the conveying equipment attaches fiber gathering ferrules to the opposite ends of each ribbon; provides each ribbon with opposite light admitting and emitting end faces; imprints longitudinally spaced indicia upon each ribbon; severs each ribbon between the indicia; and heat seals the free ends of the severed ribbon parts.
