A back light disposed at the back of the liquid crystal panel and guides red, green, and blue light to the surface thereof; an image memory for storing pixel data PD to be displayed on the respective pixels; an inverted data generating circuit for generating inverted pixel data #PD of the respective pixel data PD; and a control signal generating circuit and a data driver wherein first scanning for writing the pixel data PD with respect to individual pixels of the liquid crystal panel during each period in which red, green, and blue light are emitted in time-sharing manner, and second scanning for writing the inverted pixel data #PD with respect thereto are carried out in this order. Such problems that crosstalk occurs easily, besides response speed thereof is comparatively slow, so that it is not suitable for display of moving picture despite manufacturing cost of STN type display unit is comparatively inexpensive, while because TFT-TN type display unit requires a highly luminous back light, its power consumption is high, viewing angle is narrow, adjustment is difficult in color balance and the like are solved.

A display control method of a liquid crystal displaying apparatus for driving a liquid crystal panel comprising two substrates, and a liquid crystal layer therebetween. The driving means includes: pixel electrodes each corresponding to a pixel; and for time-division, emitting an LED (Light Emitting Diode) array for red, green, and blue as a back light within each display period, in synchronization with the on/off operation of the pixel electrodes. Each display period is divided into four. The LEDs in the LED array emit red, green, and blue lights in one of the divided periods. Then, one of the three colors is emitted again. This method solves the problem of the conventional control method for performing time-division color display in a liquid crystal displaying apparatus; namely, the insufficient emission intensity of LEDs makes the intensity of the entire liquid display apparatus insufficient, such that white is seen as somewhat grayish white to the human eye.

When writing display data, and when deleting display data that has been written, a voltage, not including 0V, that becomes a voltage potential, or in other words, a voltage that is greater than a threshold voltage at which the optical characteristic of the filled ferroelectric liquid crystal changes is applied between the opposing electrode and pixel electrodes. An image is displayed over all gradation numbers, including the low-gradation side, and the display characteristic is improved.

The FLC has the disadvantage caused by the incomplete memory effect at during driving for displaying “black” in several frames, where the light transmittance is preferably desired zero. The panel in the display are driven signals so that the driving signals are applied across the picture element, where the signals are positively or negatively offset to reference voltage of the panel.

In the case of high-resolution image display, a first control method is adopted in which in synchronism with the input of the pixel data of one of the luminous colors, the light of the one of the luminous colors is emitted and the lights of the other luminous colors are not emitted. In the case of coarse image display, a second control method is adopted in which in synchronism with the input of the pixel data of one of the luminous colors, the light of the one of the luminous colors and the lights of the other luminous colors are emitted. By the second method, the color purity is slightly decreased to suppress the visual irritation.

In a liquid crystal display device, one or a plurality of partition walls adhering to the two substrates are provided in a region between the adhesive member for sealing the peripheral portions of the two substrates and a display region located inside the adhesive member so as to reduce stress applied to the liquid crystal substance. Even when stress is applied to the liquid crystal substance in the peripheral portion of the substrate, the stress is reduced by the partition wall and is not transmitted to the display region on the opposite side of the partition wall. Therefore, even when a crack occurs in the peripheral portion of the substrate due to the stress, the propagation of the crack is stopped by the partition wall, and the crack does not enter the display region.
