    摘要: A starter device for an internal combustion engine comprises an output shaft driven by a motor, and a hollow cylindrical assembly disposed coaxially around and axially slidably on the output shaft, which assembly includes a hollow shaft splined to the output shaft, and a hollow cylinder disposed at the front side of the hollow shaft and coupled thereto through an overrunning clutch which transmits a rotational force in one rotational direction. Integrally formed at the front end of the hollow cylinder is a pinion which is placed into driving engagement with a ring gear of the associated engine when the axially slidable assembly is slid to a front position by a shift lever which urges the clutch to move in the axial direction. According to one aspect of the present invention, an annular sealing member is interposed between the hollow cylinder and the output shaft at an axial position in front of the sleeve bearing which rotatably supports the hollow shaft around the output shaft. According to another aspect, the outer circumferential surface of the output shaft is provided with an organic coating, which is formed of a resin such as a fluorocarbon resin or an epoxy resin, along an axial length which is situated in front of the sleeve bearing of the hollow cylinder when the hollow cylinder is at the front position. The resin-coated portion of the output shaft includes at least the portion which projects from the front end of the hollow cylinder when the hollow cylinder is at the rear position.

    摘要: A pinion shifting mechanism of an automotive engine starter is disclosed in which the pivot support 5c of the shift lever 5 on which it turns is supported at its rear side by a resilient support means 32 instead of a rigid support surface. The shift lever operatively coupling the plunger 7 of the electromagnetic switch 4 with the pinion assembly is coupled to the plunger via an engager member 15 slidably disposed in the cylindrical bore formed in the plunger. The engager member is urged backward with respect to the plunger by a helical spring 17 disposed around the engager within the bore of the plunger. When the plunger is attracted from the initial front position toward the stationary core 8 of the electromagnetic switch, the resilient support means yields first to allow a backward translation of the pivot support of the shift lever; the spring urging the engager yields only afterwards. In another aspect, the rear as well as the front side of the pivot support of the shift lever is supported by a rigid support surface; however, the two support surfaces are disposed in such a manner that a gap 51 is formed between the rear side of the pivot support of the shift lever and the forward directed support surface 23 when the plunger is at the front position.

    摘要: A starter motor which is improved in waterproof performance. The starter motor comprises an output rotary shaft, a stationary frame, a ball bearing secured to the frame, and a clutch pinion moving member mounted in a coaxial relationship to the rotary shaft between an outer periphery of the rotary shaft and the ball bearing for sliding movement over a predetermined distance in an axial direction thereof. The clutch pinion moving member has a pinion at a front end thereof, and an oil seal is mounted at a location on the frame forwardly of the ball bearing and extending toward the clutch pinion moving member to seal a location between the frame and the clutch pinion moving member. The oil seal has a radial section of an L-shape having an axial side and a radial side extending from a front end of the axial side. It may have a plurality of axially extending drain slots or drain holes formed in a circumferentially spaced relationship on an inner periphery of the axial side thereof. Various other forms of starter motors are also disclosed.

    摘要: An overrunning clutch comprising a clutch inner member, a cylindrical member provides at the outer side of the clutch inner member, a clutch outer member provided at the outer side of the cylindrical member, and two circumferential rows of rollers movably disposed between the clutch inner member and the cylindrical member and between the cylindrical member and the clutch outer member. The upper limit value of torque transmitted between the clutch outer member and the cylindrical member through the outer circumferential row of rollers is set so as to be greater than the upper limit value of torque transmitted between the cylindrical member and the clutch inner member through the inner circumferential row of rollers. It is therefore possible to increase the amount of energy absorbed without lowering the upper limit value of transmitted torque. Thus, it is possible to prevent damage to the constituent elements and a consequent lowering of the function of the overrunning clutch.

    摘要: An engine starter comprises a hollow armature rotary shaft having a plurality of cam surfaces of an over-running clutch mechanism and having at one end a reduced-diameter portion on which a sleeve member is press fit and at the other end a stopper. A method for concurrently brazing and magnetically annealing the armature core comprises heating the armature assembly between 780.degree. C. and 850.degree. C.

    摘要: A starter used to start an engine of a vehicle includes an electric motor generating rotational force. The motor has an integrally formed cup-shaped casing one end of which is open, an armature disposed within the casing, a disk (or face) type commutator supported on a rotary shaft of the armature, and brush means having brushes pressed against a brush slide contact surface of the disk type commutator and a brush supporting member made of a resin material which retains the brushes axially slidably and which is rigidly secured to the closed end wall of the casing. Since the starter employs a disk type commutator, it is possible to accommodate the brushes in the brush supporting member together with the associated springs in one unit. Accordingly, the structure is simplified and the number of required parts is reduced considerably. Thus, assembly is extremely easy.

The output rotary shaft may have an enlarged-diameter portion 12b at the position inserted within the armature rotary shaft, which axially extends substantially between the helical spline portion and the bearing and defines a small annular clearance 24 between it and the inner circumferential surface of the armature rotary shaft.
