摘要: An engine starter comprises a hollow armature rotary shaft having a plurality of cam surfaces of an over-running clutch mechanism and having at one end a reduced-diameter portion on which a sleeve member is press fit and at the other end a stopper. The sleeve member has a rolled portion on its outer circumference on which an armature core is secured by press fit so that the armature core is firmly held by the sleeve member and the stopper on the armature rotary shaft. The armature rotary shaft may have a polygonal cross-sectional outer configuration so that the armature core can be firmly press-fit onto polygonal armature rotary shaft. A method for concurrently brazing and magnetically annealing the armature core comprises heating the armature assembly between 780.degree. C. and 850.degree. C.

摘要: A starter used to start an engine of a vehicle includes an electric motor generating rotational force. The motor has an integrally formed cup-shaped casing one end of which is open, an armature disposed within the casing, a disk (or face) type commutator supported on a rotary shaft of the armature, and brush means having brushes pressed against a brush slide contact surface of the disk type commutator and a brush supporting member made of a resin material which retains the brushes axially slidably and which is rigidly secured to the closed end wall of the casing. Since the starter employs a disk type commutator, it is possible to accommodate the brushes in the brush supporting member together with the associated springs in one unit. Accordingly, the structure is simplified and the number of required parts is reduced considerably. Thus, assembly is extremely easy.

摘要: A coaxial type starter used to start an engine of a vehicle is disclosed. The starter comprises first and second bearings which are respectively disposed between the outer circumferential portion of a carrier of an epicyclic reduction gear which is formed integral with a clutch outer member of an overrunning clutch and a fixed portion of the starter and between the inner circumferential portion of the carrier and the outer circumferential portion of an armature rotary shaft of a d.c. motor. Accordingly, the carrier of the epicyclic reduction gear is prevented from becoming eccentric by the first bearing, and the armature rotary shaft of the d.c. motor which is supported by the carrier through the second bearing is also prevented from becoming eccentric. Thus, it is possible to eliminate any risk of the planet gears of the epicyclic reduction gear being damaged or generating noise.

摘要: A starter device for an internal combustion engine comprises an output shaft driven by a motor, and a hollow cylindrical assembly disposed coaxially around and axially slidably on the output shaft, which assembly includes a hollow shaft splined to the output shaft, and a hollow cylinder disposed at the front side of the hollow shaft and coupled thereto through an overrunning clutch which transmits a rotational force in one rotational direction. Integrally formed at the front end of the hollow cylinder is a pinion which is placed into driving engagement with a ring gear of the associated engine when the axially slidable assembly is slid to a front position by a shift lever which urges the clutch to move in the axial direction. According to one aspect of the present invention, an annular sealing member is interposed between the hollow cylinder and the output shaft at an axial position in front of the sleeve bearing which rotatably supports the hollow shaft around the output shaft. According to another aspect, the outer circumferential surface of the output shaft is provided with an organic coating, which is formed of a resin such as a fluorocarbon resin or an epoxy resin, along an axial length which is situated in front of the sleeve bearing of the hollow cylinder when the hollow cylinder is at the front position. The resin-coated portion of the output shaft includes at least the portion which projects from the front end of the hollow cylinder when the hollow cylinder is at the rear position.

摘要: An engine starter comprising a motor having a tubular armature rotation shaft, a rotation output shaft arranged on one axial end of the motor and on the coaxial line with the armature rotation shaft and axially slidably supported, a clutch mechanism for transmitting the turning force of the armature rotation shaft to the rotation output shaft and an electromagnetic switch which not only has a shifting member, by means of an electromagnetic force, to push the rotation output shaft in the axial direction to slidably move it, but which brings movable contacts in touch with fixed contacts, thereby to supply power to the motor. The rear part of the rotation output shaft and the front part of the shifting member inserted into the armature rotation shaft tube from opposite directions, the shifting member of the electromagnetic switch, armature rotation shaft and the rotation output shaft are coaxial. For making the whole length of the starter compact in coaxially arranging these parts, a composition preventing invasion of dust into the contact chamber of the electromagnetic switch is adapted. For providing such a compact composition, restrictions are made on the position of the spring as a means for restoring the rotation shaft to its former position after the engine has started.

摘要: A starter includes a movable pinion cylinder mounted on a rotary output shaft so that the movable pinion cylinder is slidable on the rotary output shaft a by predetermined distance together with an overrunning clutch. 摘要: An engine starter includes a motor having a tubular armature rotation shaft, and a rotation output shaft arranged on one axial end side of the motor coaxially therewith to be axially slidably supported. A clutch mechanism is included for transmitting torque from the armature rotation shaft to a rotation output shaft and an electromagnetic switch which has a shifting member to push the aforementioned rotation output shaft by an electromagnetic force in the axial direction to slidably move it. The switch also brings movable contacts in touch with fixed contacts to supply power to the aforementioned motor. A rear part of the rotation output shaft and the front part of the shifting member are inserted into the armature rotation shaft tube from opposite directions. The shifting member of the electromagnetic switch, the armature rotation shaft and the rotation output shaft are all coaxially arranged to reduce the length of the starter. The coaxial arrangement is highly effective in preventing invasion of dust into the contact chamber of the electromagnetic switch. To ensure a compact size for the starter a compact spring is provided for restoring the rotation shaft to a rest position after the engine has started.

摘要: A pinion shifting mechanism of an automotive engine starter is disclosed in which the pivot support 5c of the shift lever 5 on which it turns is supported at its rear side by a resilient support means 32 instead of a rigid support surface. The shift lever operatively coupling the plunger 7 of the electromagnetic switch 4 with the pinion assembly is coupled to the plunger via an engager member 15 slidably disposed in the cylindrical bore formed in the plunger. The engager member is urged backward with respect to the plunger by a helical spring 17 disposed around the engager within the bore of the plunger. When the plunger is attracted from the initial front position toward the stationary core 8 of the electromagnetic switch, the resilient support means yields first to allow a backward translation of the pivot support of the shift lever; the spring urging the engager yields only afterwards. In another aspect, the rear as well as the front side of the pivot support of the shift lever is supported by a rigid support surface; however, the two support surfaces are disposed in such a manner that a gap 51 is formed between the rear side of the pivot support of the shift lever and the forward directed support surface 23 when the plunger is at the front position.
