摘要: A turbocharger having a variable geometry turbine inlet incorporates a piston movable to vary the area of the inlet nozzle into the turbine. Vanes extending from the heat shield for flow control in the nozzle are engaged by the piston in a first closed position. In a second open position, the piston is spaced from the vanes increasing the inlet nozzle area.

摘要: A turbocharger having a sliding piston assembly comprising a tubular piston disposed in the bore of the turbine housing such that the piston is axially slidable relative to the turbine housing. The piston assembly further comprises a tubular carrier inserted axially into the bore of the turbine housing surrounding the piston and fixed against axial movement relative to the turbine housing, a radially outer surface of the carrier engaging an inner surface of the bore and a radially inner surface of the carrier being slidably engaged by a radially outer surface of the piston. The carrier defines an axial split extending a length of the carrier, and the carrier is resiliently flexible. Accordingly, the axial split allows the carrier to expand and contract in diameter.

摘要: A subassembly of a system including an exhaust gas turbocharger system coupled with an internal combustion engine exhaust system, comprises first and second components secured to each other, wherein the components are heated to an operational temperature by engine exhaust gases during engine operation. The components are secured to each other by or with a “low-melt material”, i.e., a material whose melting temperature is less than the operational temperature, such that the low-melt material melts or at least loses its securing and/or positioning functionality upon operation of the engine and turbocharger system, and thus no longer performs any fastening or positioning function for the components. In some embodiment, temporary fasteners made of or including the low-melt material are employed for temporarily securing and positioning the components.

摘要: An assembly can include a valve seat for an exhaust bypass valve of a serial turbocharger system where the valve seat includes a base portion and a wall portion that extends axially away from the base portion; and a gasket that includes a planar portion that defines a perimeter and a socket disposed interior to the perimeter, where the socket includes a valve seat surface axially recessed from the planar portion and configured to position the seat. In various examples, the valve seat is positioned in the socket of the gasket and fixed to the gasket. Various other examples of devices, assemblies, systems, methods, etc., are also disclosed.

摘要: A turbocharger having a sliding piston assembly comprising a tubular piston disposed in the bore of the turbine housing such that the piston is axially slidable relative to the turbine housing.
