    摘要： A printer is disclosed having an improved paper feed mechanism. The improved paper feed system has a reduced cost and accepts a wide variety of paper types including continuous forms and single cut sheets fed both by hand and from a paper tray. Furthermore, the printer is capable of switching from one paper source to another without requiring the operator to unload and reload paper. The mechanism operates with only two motors and no solenoids. Control over the paper path is maintained by employing the carriage to select the paper path and lift the ball. The printer also has a novel paper sensor.

    摘要： Embodiments of a method and apparatus for advancing a media sheet are shown and described in which a media sheet is urged along a media path toward a first position and a second position. The second position is downstream from the first position along the media path. As a leading edge of the media sheet reaches the first position, the leading edge is prevented from passing the first position for an initial time period while the media sheet is being urged along the media path. As the leading edge reaches the second position, the leading edge is prevented from passing the second position for a subsequent time period while the media sheet is being urged along the media path.

    摘要： A separator is provided for use in a sheet pick-up system, the separator including a rigid body having a base portion and a wear-resistant upstanding portion. The separator is mounted adjacent the printer's input port and is biased toward a motor-driven roller, pinching input sheets between the roller and the separator's upstanding portion so that the roller may pull the top sheet across the second sheet and the upstanding portion. A frictionally adherent pad is formed in operative association with the body so as to extend in a region forward of the upstanding portion and contact the second sheet to oppose intake thereof.

    摘要： A transmission for transmitting rotary power in forward and reverse directions from a programmable source of input motion such as an electric motor uses individually rotatable coaxially mounted lock plates each having a pawl receiving socket therein providing access to an arcuate slot of selected angular length permits engagement and disengagement of the transmission only when input torque is applied thereto in forward and reverse directions to rotate the transmission input gear through pre-defined angles. The pawl is part of a frictionally driven shift arm on which a driven shift gear is also mounted whereby the driven shift gear is pivotally moved into and out of engagement with the output gear or gears of the transmission when the pawl is pivotally moved out of or into the sockets in the lock plates. Rotation limit stops are provided on the lock plates at selected angular positions so that the transmission can be engaged or disengaged for transmission of torque in both forward and reverse directions only when the motor is rotated through a sequence of predetermined angles in predetermined directions.
