摘要: A method of correcting for malfunctioning ink ejection elements in a printing system using a single pass over a recording medium which includes obtaining a standard printmask, identifying ink ejection elements which are malfunctioning, ascertaining an original color measurement value for each pixel which will be printed with the malfunctioning ink ejection elements, determining a replacement color measurement value closest in value to the original color measurement value which does not use the malfunctioning ink ejection elements for each pixel which will be printed with the malfunctioning ink ejection elements and modifying the standard printmask by adjusting the number and color of ink drops deposited based on the replacement color measurement value for each pixel which will be printed with the malfunctioning ink ejection elements to create a modified printmask.

摘要: A pen alignment method for a multi-pen printer is provided, the method including directing a first pen to print a first pattern of a first color, directing a second pen to print a second pattern of a second color in a predetermined relative alignment with the first pattern to form a test block, determining an actual hue of the test block via spectral analysis of the test block using a color sensor, and comparing the actual hue of the test block with an expected hue of the test block to determine whether the first and second pens are misaligned relative to each other, wherein the expected hue of the test block is the hue that would be detected if the first pen and second pen were correctly aligned.

摘要: A method and apparatus for servicing a pen in an inkjet printing device includes receiving a print job, determining a level of print quality required for the print job, detecting the operating characteristics of a number of nozzles to be used to print the print job; and, in the event that the operating characteristics of the nozzles are sufficient to meet the level of print quality, printing the print job. A maintenance procedure may be scheduled in the event that an individual one of the nozzles is not fully functional. In addition, the maintenance procedure may be scheduled to be performed during a time when the inkjet printing device is idle.

摘要: A compact optical sensing system is used in hardcopy devices for scanning and/or printing images, for instance, using inkjet printing technology in desktop printing or in photographic printers appearing in grocery and variety stores. Several light emitting diodes (“LEDs”) illuminate a sheet of print media, and one or more photodiodes receive light reflected from the sheet. The photodiode generates signals in response to the light received, and the hardcopy device uses these signals to adjust printing parameters for optimal print quality. Using a chip-on-board process, the bare silicon die for each component is wire bonded directly to a printed circuit board assembly, allowing at least four LEDs (blue, green, red and soft-orange) to be grouped closely together in a space smaller than that occupied by a factory-made, single-packaged LED. A calibrating system uses a white target covered for cleanliness by a windowed door which is opened/closed by a printhead carriage.

摘要: A carriage, driven along a carriage rod, rests on the carriage rod at carriage V-bearings. The V-bearing connection is open at the bottom. A magnetic preloader applies a magnetic force biasing the carriage toward the carriage rod. A roller coupled to the carriage runs along a track surface away from the carriage rod. At high slew velocities, a local discontinuity, such as a bump, encountered by the roller causes an acceleration of the roller away from the track surface. The upward rotation causes a torque rotating the carriage around the carriage rod. A magnetic restoring torque is applied in the vicinity of the roller to keep the roller running smoothly along the track surface.

摘要: A printer is disclosed having an improved paper feed mechanism. The improved paper feed system has a reduced cost and accepts a wide variety of paper types including continuous forms and single cut sheets fed both by hand and from a paper tray. Furthermore, the printer is capable of switching from one paper source to another without requiring the operator to unload and reload paper. The mechanism operates with only two motors and no solenoids. Control over the paper path is maintained by employing the carriage to select the paper path and lift the ball. The printer also has a novel paper sensor.
