    摘要: A cutting mechanism for a printing apparatus is described. The cutting mechanism is particularly suitable for tape printers. In the cutting mechanism, one of a cutting blade and an anvil is mounted for rolling motion with respect to the other so that as the rolling motion occurs a cut is made through the tape. Moreover, the cutting mechanism can be actuated by a handle which lies flush with the printer casing and which can be actuated externally of the casing.

    摘要: When selected documents traveling along a first feed path (46) are to be fed to a second feed path (48), a solenoid is energized causing pivotal movement of a pair of flipper arms (56a, 56b) so as to direct the documents onto the second feed path (48). When the solenoid is de-energized, documents on the first feed path (46) may proceed to the continuation portion thereof i.e., path (46a), or documents from the second feed path (48) may be fed to the continuation portion (46a) of the first feed path (46). The flipper arms (56a, 56b) are coupled by gearing mechanisms so that they are moveable relative to each other, pivotal movement of one flipper arm (56a, 56b) causing pivotal movement of the other arm (56a, 56b). Such relative movement between the flipper arms (56a, 56b) allows for a compact and reliable structure and activation of the mechanism is required only when documents are to be fed from the first feed path (46) to the second feed path (48).

    摘要: An automatic tape detecting and tape width identifying printing apparatus or tape holder wherein the printing apparatus and tape holder include an optical sensing arrangement having at least first and second optical sensing assemblies. The first and second optical sensing assemblies each, preferably, include a photo transistor and a light emitting diode. The photo transistor is located to receive and detect light from the light emitting diode. The first and second optical sensing assemblies are located to automatically detect the presence or absence of tape within the tape holder. In a preferred embodiment, the first optical sensing assembly is located to automatically discriminate the presence of a particular width, w2, of tape within the tape holder. In addition, the second optical sensing assembly is located to automatically discriminate the presence of a different width, w1, of tape within the tape holder. The presence or absence of tape, and, if present, the width of the tape are automatically detected and a signal indicating such is transmitted from the first and/or second optical sensing assemblies to a controller. The controller prevents operation of the print head in the absence of tape and, when present, controls the print head to print within the width of tape detected. Thus, the present invention automatically prevents damage to the print head or platen of the printing apparatus.
