These phytochemicals and derivatives exhibit remarkable growth promoting activities on plant roots, shoots and promote seed germination both in monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants. These phytomolecules possess the antagonistic activity against allelochemicals of plant growth retardant nature and hence can be used to alleviate their detrimental effects.

The present invention relates to a cultivar of Phyllanthus amarus ‘CIM-Jeevan’, producing high amount of herb, phyllanthin and hypophyllanthin, wherein said cultivar is developed through γ-irradiation of superior germplasm, the said plant produces high amount of herbage yield ranging between 1.0-1.15 kg per sqm fresh total plant herb, possesses high vegetative erect growth with a height ranging between 60 to 65 cm, produces phyllanthin ranging between 0.70-0.77% in dry herb, produces hypophyllanthin ranging between 0.32-0.37% in dry herb, and shows seed germination of about 90%.

The present invention relates to an improved process for the production of vasicine of formula (1) from the Adhatoda vasica, said process comprising the steps of: extracting the dried and pulverized leaves with an alcoholic extract at an ambient temperature, concentrating the alcoholic extract to obtain a concentrated extract, treating and stirring extract with an aqueous organic acid for 2-24 hours, extracting the acid solution of with an organic solvent, separating the organic layer and aqueous acidic layer, basifying the aqueous acidic solution with a base, extracting the basified solution with an organic solvent, separating the organic layer, drying and filtering, evaporating the organic layer to obtain an amorphous residue, and treating the amorphous residue with an organic solvent or mixture of organic solvents to obtain vasicine.
