Abstract: A method performed by a wireless device operating in an uplink multi-user mode is described. The method includes determining that a condition exists to prompt the wireless device to transmit an unsolicited low latency presence frame to an access point to solicit transmission of a solicited control frame from the access point; transmitting the unsolicited low latency presence frame to the access point, the unsolicited low latency presence frame indicating a type of solicited control frame requested by the wireless device; receiving a solicited control frame from the access point, the solicited control frame comprising information relating to the unsolicited low latency presence frame; and performing an action based on the received solicited control frame.

Abstract: A method performed by a wireless device operating in an uplink multi-user mode includes: setting an exclusion bit in an operating mode control subfield of a transmit operating mode indicator frame, the exclusion bit indicating an exclusion of an AC or a TID from the uplink multi-user mode; sending, to the AP, a trigger-based physical layer protocol data unit (PPDU) comprising the transmit operating mode indicator frame; contending for channel access using an enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) function to send the low latency data via an uplink; and transmitting the low latency data to the AP in a single user PPDU in accordance with EDCA-based channel contention.

Abstract: A method for transmitting a high priority (HP) packet from a first wireless device to a second wireless device is described. The method includes determining the presence of an HP packet for uplink transmission; determining that a communications link that uses a wireless medium for transmitting the HP packet is busy; generating a preemption request message in a frame; and transmitting the frame with the preemption request message to the second wireless device. The first wireless device can receive from the second wireless device an indication that the preemption request was accepted, such as by receiving a trigger frame with resource allocation for transmitting the HP packet or an indication of the end of a contention free period, to allow the first wireless device to contend for channel access to transmit the HP packet.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and mechanisms for preemption of non-low latency data within an aggregated medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (AMPDU), e.g., such as in current and future IEEE 802.11 systems. A wireless device (e.g., an access point or wireless station) may transmit, during an AMPDU, a trigger to receive (TRX) frame. The TRX frame may indicate preemption of non-low latency data intended for a first wireless station with low latency data intended for a second wireless station, e.g., via an acknowledgement policy change. Additionally, the wireless device may be configured to transmit, to the second wireless station, the low latency data within the AMPDU. Further, the wireless device may be configured to receive, after the AMPDU transmission is complete, a multi-block acknowledgement (M-BA) frame from the second wireless station. The M-BA frame and completion of the AMPDU transmission are separated by a short inter-frame space (SIFS).
