Abstract: Amplification circuitry is disclosed that couples neutralization transistors to amplification transistors to neutralize parasitic capacitance of the amplification transistors. Gates of a first amplification transistor and a first neutralization transistor are coupled together, and gates of a second amplification transistor and a second neutralization transistor are also coupled together. Drains of the first amplification transistor and the second neutralization transistor are coupled together, and drains of the second amplification transistor and the first neutralization transistor are also coupled together. Sources of neutralization transistors are coupled together at a node, such that a voltage swing of a first signal in the first neutralization transistor may be canceled by a voltage swing of a second signal in the second neutralization transistor. The node also couples to a resistor that prevents charge building in the neutralization transistors.

Abstract: This disclosure is directed to power gain variation compensation of Radio Frequency (RF) receivers based on temperature variations. An RF receiver may include amplification circuitry having a chain of multiple amplifiers and/or passive elements. Multiple distributed and/or lumped attenuators disposed at different points between amplifiers and/or passive elements of the chain may attenuate a received RF signal to compensate for gain variations of the multiple amplifiers and/or passive elements caused by a temperature change. Accordingly, the distributed and/or lumped attenuators may improve linear response of the amplifiers and/or passive elements and signal-to-noise and distortion ratio of RF signals received at the receiver.

In active power splitter circuitry, multiple transmitting amplifiers may be used to drive a plurality of antennas in a phased antenna array. In active power combiner circuitry, multiple receiving amplifiers may be used to receive radio-frequency signals from the plurality of antennas in the phased antenna array.

Abstract: An electronic device may include wireless circuitry with a transmission line path coupled between a transceiver and antenna. An amplifier may be disposed on the transmission line path. The amplifier may have a reconfigurable matching network at its output. The network may have coupled lines such as transmission line segments or transformer coils. The coupled lines may couple an input port of the network to a load port and a control port of the network. The load port may be coupled to the antenna. The control port may be coupled to an adjustable termination. The control port may receive a control signal that configures the adjustable termination to exhibit an impedance selected based on a VSWR of the antenna. The impedance of the adjustable termination may be tuned so the amplifier sees a consistent load impedance at the load port even as the VSWR of the antenna changes over time.

Abstract: Wireless circuitry is provided that includes at least a first amplifier, a second amplifier, and a power splitting transformer coupled to the first and second amplifiers. The first amplifier can include first input transistors, and the second amplifier can include second input transistors. The power splitting transformer can include a primary coil, a first secondary coil having terminals coupled to gate terminals of the first input transistors and having a center tap configured to receive a first bias voltage, and a second secondary coil having terminals coupled to gate terminals of the second input transistors and having a center tap configured to receive a second bias voltage. The first and second amplifiers may output signals to a power combining transformer. The power combining transformer can have a first primary coil, a second primary coil, and a secondary coil all disposed within a single compact transformer footprint.

Abstract: This disclosure is directed to a series Doherty power amplifier including two-transformers. The series Doherty combiner may include a first branch including a main amplifier and a first transformer coupled to a load. In particular, a primary inductor of the first transformer may be coupled to the main amplifier and a secondary inductor of the first transformer may couple to the load. The series Doherty combiner may also include a second branch including an auxiliary amplifier and a second transformer coupled to the secondary inductor of the first transformer. The second transformer may couple to the load via the secondary inductor of the first transformer. As such, the load is coupled in series to the first branch and is coupled in series to the second branch. Moreover, the load is coupled in shunt to the main amplifier and the auxiliary amplifier.

Abstract: Radio frequency (RF) transmitters of a device (aggressor device) may unintentionally transmit a high-power output signal to antennas of a receiving device (victim device). In some RF systems, a victim device may have no or little protection between its antennas and transistors in an integrated circuit. Performance or lifetime of the transistors may be negatively impacted due to large voltage swings that may result from the high-power signal received from the aggressor device. To prevent or mitigate impact to performance or lifetime of the transistors due to the large voltage swings, protection circuitry including switches and a direct current (DC) power source (e.g., a charge pump) may be implemented at an input of a receiver of the victim device to shunt the power from sensitive circuit components of the victim device.

Abstract: A hybrid switched-type phase shifter (STPS) may include the π-type phase shifters and T-type phase shifters to provide more stable output signals over a wide frequency range. The hybrid STPS may provide output signals based on shifting a phase of the input signal having different frequencies across the frequency range by different phase shifts with relatively similar phase drifts resulting in a reduced phase error during operation. In some cases, the phase shifters discussed above may also include a number of capacitors and/or inductors. In some embodiments, a circuitry or layout of the phase shifters may be shared to reduce a total number of capacitors and therefore reduce a circuit area of the hybrid STPS. Moreover, stacking at least two inductors of the hybrid STPS may also reduce a circuit area for shifting the phase of the input signal by the desired phase shifts across the frequency range.
