Abstract: A separator of a battery cell includes first pores disposed through a first segment of a thickness of the separator, and second pores disposed through a second segment of the thickness. In an unwound state of the separator, a first cross-sectional area of the first pores differs in size from a second cross-sectional area of the second pores by a first amount. In a wound state of the separator, the first cross-sectional area is substantially equal in size to the second cross-sectional area, or the first cross-sectional area differs in size from the second cross-sectional area by a second amount that is less than the first amount.

Abstract: This application relates to a battery system for reducing spacing between components in an electronic device. The battery system includes a housing surrounding an electrode assembly and a connection module. The housing is rigid or semi-rigid and connected to a common ground. The battery system can be positioned in the electronic device to contact components without damaging the components. In some embodiments, the battery system can be used as a structural element in the electronic component.

Abstract: Rechargeable battery cells according to embodiments of the present technology may include a housing having a first conductive segment operable at anode potential. The housing may include a second conductive segment operable at cathode potential. The housing may include a gasket positioned between the first conductive segment and the second conductive segment and configured to hermetically seal the housing. The cells may include an electrode stack including an anode. The anode may include an anode tab electrically coupled with the first conductive segment of the housing. The electrode stack may include a cathode. The cathode may include a cathode tab electrically coupled with the second conductive segment of the housing. The cells may include a barrier material disposed between the cathode tab and the second conductive segment of the housing. The cathode tab may be electrically coupled with the second conductive segment of the housing through the barrier material.
