An outer end of each element is angled inwardly so that both outer ends converge symmetrically with respect to each other. A cam member slidably fits over the elements and has divergent surfaces which come into camming contact with the convergent ends. This forces the elements inwardly and causes them to grip the end of a co-axial wire.

    摘要: Individual segments of splicing tape are prepared at a splice cutting station from a continuous length of foil-thin, self adhering splicing tape. Each thusly prepared splicing-tape segment is transported by a vacuum pickup over to a splicing station at which a spool of magnetic tape has been positioned with the ends of the magnetic tape temporarily held in abutting relation by a vacuum operated, tape hold-down assembly. The vacuum pickup now moves to deposit the segment of splicing tape onto the abutting ends of the magnetic tape, and thereafter releases the vacuum hold on the splicing segment and returns to the splice cutting station to repeat the foregoing sequence. Each time the vacuum pickup moves to pickup a new splicing segment it actuates a cutting blade arranged to make a crosswise cut in the continuous length of the splicing tape that is fed around the circumference of a motor driven cutting wheel, the circumference of which forms a cutting surface carefully selected to enable the blade to reliably sever the foil-thin splicing tape. The individual splicing segments are thus formed by successive crosswise cuts spaced at increments along the length of the splicing tape, with such spacing being determined by controlled, incremental rotation of the cutting wheel during the time that the vacuum pickup is moving to and returning from the splicing station.

    摘要: A plurality of strands of magnetic recording tape are withdrawn in parallel feed paths from tape supply reels and are fed by a tape feed assembly at a controlled, high speed rate to a takeup assembly and wound thereat on a corresponding plurality of tape cartridge spools, of the endless tape type, that are rotated by a takeup shaft. The takeup shaft is driven at a spooling rate that is faster than the feed rate and each of the spools are drive coupled to the takeup shaft by individual, adjustable slip-clutch hub assemblies which cause the tape strands to be wound at individually adjustable spooling tensions which must be carefully regulated to insure proper operation of the spooled tapes when assembled in the endless tape cartridge. Each of the supply reels holds sufficient tape for filling numerous individual spools and as each set of spools on the takeup shaft becomes full, the strands of tape are cut and the full spools are withdrawn and replaced with empty spools. At all times during the exchange of spools, the strands of tape from the supply reels are held captive by a tape threading bar assembly which includes a plurality of tape clamps carried on an elongate bar that is movable between a tape capturing position lying crosswise of the strands of tape intermediate the tape feed assembly and the spools on the takeup shaft, and a tape threading position lying on the diametrically opposite side of the spools from the tape feed assembly. After a set of spools has been filled with tape, the threading bar assembly is moved to the tape capturing position and the strands of tape are clamped to the bar and then severed between the bar and the spools. The wound spools are thereupon removed from the takeup shaft. After reloading an empty set of spools on the takeup shaft, the threading bar assembly is rotated to its threading position causing the strands of tape held captive thereby to be drawn over the spools and thereby, positioning the ends of the tape strands such that they can be attached to the spools prior to initiating a succeeding winding operation.

    摘要: A female coaxial cable electrical connector includes an electrically conductive barrel or shell enclosing a contact carrier assembly. The contact carrier assembly consists of a cap member enclosing a subassembly that includes an elastomeric sleeve or tubing compressively but yieldably mounted over the contact receiving arms of a base member with an electrical contact secured between opposing ones of the two contact receiving arms. The electrical contact is formed from electrically conductive material, and includes two opposing half-sections that are mounted between the contact receiving arms of the base, and have side wing portions contacting one another, with opposing longitudinal semicircular grooves of the half-sections of the contact together forming a circular pathway for receiving a male electrical pin or the center conductor of a coaxial cable. When such a pin or center conductor is inserted into the electrical contact, the elastomeric sleeve initially yields on inward pressure to permit insertion of the pin, while maintaining sufficient inward pressure to force the semicircular grooves of the electrical contact to mechanically contact and surround the circumference of the male pin or center conductor, for substantially the full length of its insertion, thereby insuring a low resistance electrical contact therebetween.

    摘要: A tape transport apparatus for recording tape having a rotationally driven tape drive capstan for advancing the tape and a pinch roller for firmly engaging the tape with the tape drive capstan includes a rapid tape advancement feature. Clutch devices selectively couple rotational driving force to the tape drive capstan from a first normal playing rate motor devices or a second high speed advancement motor devices. The clutch devices are centrifugal force-actuated and of a ratchet-like nature. A rotating element connected to the tape drive capstan includes a code, and a sensor which senses the code and derives signals indicative of each revolution of the tape drive capstan. The signals are electrically processed and an accurate measurement of the extent of tape advancement is obtained and displayed.
