Abstract:
Methods, systems and computer readable media for processing one or more biological specimens carried by specimen slides. Images of objects in a specimen are acquired and objects of interest in the acquired images are identified. Additional images of identified objects of interest may be acquired at multiple wavelengths. Cellular features of objects of interest are extracted from images and may be used for classifying the specimen, e.g., as normal or suspicious/abnormal, based a probabilistic model that utilizes the extracted features.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a cell fixative that can be used in the preparation of slides for investigation by microscopy techniques. In particular the present invention provides a cell fixative that contains a light curable mounting medium.
Abstract:
Methods for transformation of maize with nucleic acid sequences of interest are disclosed. The method involves subjecting immature zygotic embryos or Type I callus to high velocity microprojectile bombardment. The method is capable of producing transformed maize lines of commercial importance and their hybrid combinations.
Abstract:
The invention provides a method for the assessment of biological markers in a sample of tissue, cells or fluid for the detection a malignant or pre-malignant condition. Aspects of the present invention are particularly useful in screening samples such as cervical smears from women to detect such markers. Identification of a malignant or pre-malignant condition may be followed by appropriate treatment.
Abstract:
Systems and methods analyzing body fluids contain cells including blood, bone marrow, urine, vaginal tissue, epithelial tissue, tumors, semen, and spittle are disclosed. The systems and methods utilize an improved technique for applying a monolayer of cells to a slide and generating a substantially uniform distribution of cells on the slide. Additionally aspects of the invention also relate to systems and method for utilizing multi-color microscopy for improving the quality of images captured by a light receiving device.

Abstract:
A system for prescreening and reviewing cytological specimens includes an imager for obtaining and processing image data of a specimen slide, which identifies cellular objects of interest in the specimen, calculates object values for the identified objects based on one or more of their respective physical attributes, and selects fields of view of the specimen slide for subsequent review on a review scope, based on the locations of identified objects having object values of greatest relative interest. One or more of the objects may be further selected by the imager for emphasized review, which may include additional presentation for review (whether automatic or conditioned) of the one or more objects, whether in the same or in a different field of view than when the object(s) were originally presented. Emphasized review of selected objects may also or additionally be provided by highlighting or otherwise visually emphasizing the objects when they are presented for viewing on the review scope.
Abstract:
A fluid dispense system for use with a drum having a drum insert configured to couple with a bung included on a drum, the drum insert having an upper portion and a drum insert down tube extending therefrom into an interior of the drum. The system further having a dispense head configured to couple with the drum insert, the dispense head having first and second conduits, each having a valve assembly, the valve assemblies in operable communication with the drum insert when the dispense head is coupled with the drum insert. When the dispense head is coupled with the drum insert the first and second valve assemblies are effected to an open position enabling fluid to flow through the conduits. When the dispense head is not coupled with the drum insert the first and second valve assemblies are biased to a closed position inhibiting fluid from flowing through the conduits.
Abstract:
A device and system is provided for a prosthetic device having an articulating joint for a leg amputee. The device includes a joint housing forming a chamber, and the chamber has a first opening. A rotary hub can be disposed within the joint housing and configured to act as the articulating joint. One or more vanes can extend outwardly from the rotary hub, and the vane is configured to actuate fluid flow through the first opening.
