SUPPORTED CATALYSTS FOR OXIDATION REACTIONS CONSISTING OF AN INERT CARRIER AND AN ACTIVE COMPOSITION APPLIED THERETO IN A THIN LAYER WHICH CONTAINS FROM 1 TO 30% BY WEIGHT OF VANADIUM PENTOXIDE, FROM 99 TO 40% BY WEIGHT OF ZIRCONIUM DIOXIDE AND FROM 0 TO 55% BY WEIGHT OF TITANIUM DIOXIDE.
Abstract:
The production of formaldehyde by oxidation of methanol in the presence of a catalyst in the form of oxides of iron and of molybdenum on a silicate carrier. The formaldehyde which can be prepared according to the process of the invention is a disinfectant, tanning material, reducing agent and valuable starting material for the production of synthetic resins, adhesives, plastics and auxiliaries for many industrial fields.

A PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF PHTHALIC ANHYDRIDE BY OXIDATION OF O-XYLENE OR NAPTHALENE WITH OXYGEN OF A GAS CONTAINING OXYGEN IN THE PRESENCE OF A SUPPORTED CATALYST CONTAINING VANADIUM PENTOXIDE IN A REACTION TUBE WHEREIN THE INNER SURFACE OF SAID TUBE IN WHICH THE OXIDATION IS CARRIED OUT HAS BOTH SMOOTH AND ROUGHENED INNER SURFACE PORTIONS WITH 30 TO 60% OF SAID INNER SURFACE BEING ROUGHENED BY ANNULAR OR SPIRAL DESPRESSIONS HAVING A WIDTH OF 0.5 TO 30 MIM. AND A DEPTH OF 0.2 TO 1 MM.
