Abstract:
The invention comprises dyes of the formula:- where X is hydrogen, hydroxy, amino or substituted amino, Z is hydrogen, halogen, a linear or branched saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, alkoxy or hydroxy, Y is -O-, -S-, -O.CH2.CH2-, -O.CH2. CH2.O-, -O.CH2.CH2.S-, -S.CH2.CH2. O- or -S.CH2.CH2.S-, and each of the R radicals in the group is hydrogen or an identical or different substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or heterocyclic radical, or R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen atom form a heterocyclic ring. The dyes are made by reacting an anthraquinone of the formula:- where X, Y and Z are as above, with excess chlorosulphonic acid at room temperature and then reacting the sulphochloride obtained with an excess of ammonia or an appropriate amine at temperatures between 10 DEG and 80 DEG C. Examples are given. The dyes dye and print linear polyester fibres from aqueous dispersion. Specification 877,591 is referred to.
