Abstract: Production of aliphatic and cycloaliphatic Alpha -nitroketones in liquid phase by reaction of the corresponding ketones with concentrated nitric acid whose water content is less than 5.0 percent by weight. In principle all aliphatic and cycloaliphatic ketones can be nitrated according to the invention. Examples are diethyl ketone, cyclohexanone and cyclododecanone.
