Abstract: Described herein is a polyester-polyurethane-poly(meth)acrylic hybrid dispersion obtainable by esterifying at least one polyurethane containing carboxyl groups, the at least one polyurethane having an acid number of more than 200 mg KOH/g to 400 mg KOH/g and at least one or more terminal carboxyl groups; with at least one polyester containing hydroxyl groups, the polyester having a hydroxyl number of 50 mg KOH/g to 300 mg KOH/g, to obtain a polyester-polyurethane; followed by polymerizing ethylenically unsaturated monomers at least including (meth)acrylic monomers by radical polymerization in the presence of the polyester-polyurethane where one or more solvents are present and/or employed, thereby obtaining the polyester-polyurethane-poly(meth)acrylic hybrid dispersion.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a process for producing aqueous polyurethane dispersions having carboxyl groups. The process includes i. providing a liquid mixture of polyol compounds essentially consisting of a) at least one aliphatic diol compound a) bearing at least one carboxyl group; b) at least one polymeric polyol compound b) having on average 1.5 to 3.0 hydroxyl groups per molecule; c) optionally one or more further active hydrogen compounds; ii. continuously feeding the liquid mixture of polyol compounds provided in step i. and at least one isocyanate compound d) into a continuously operated reactor; iii. continuously discharging the polyurethane produced in step ii. from the reactor and iv. continuously dispersing the polyurethane of step iii. in water and v. optionally a chain extension or crosslinking step.
