Abstract: The presently claimed invention provides a tri-metallic layered catalytic article comprising: a) a top layer comprising platinum supported on at least one of an oxygen storage component, zirconia component and an alumina component, and rhodium supported on an oxygen storage component; b) a bottom layer comprising a front zone and a rear zone, said front zone comprising palladium supported on an oxygen storage component and an alumina component, and the rear zone comprises platinum supported on at least one of an alumina component, a ceria component, and an oxygen storage component; and c) a substrate, wherein the weight ratio of palladium to platinum is in the range of 1.0:0.4 to 1.0:2.0.

Abstract: The presently claimed invention provides an automotive catalyst comprising a platinum group metal selected from palladium, platinum, rhodium and any combination thereof; metal oxide nanoparticles; and a carrier, wherein the platinum group metal and the metal oxide nanoparticles are homogeneously dispersed on the carrier such as alumina component. The metal oxide nanoparticles have a D90 diameter in the range of 1.0 nm to 50 nm. The presently claimed invention also provides a layered catalytic article comprising catalyst comprising at least one platinum group metal; metal oxide nanoparticles; and a carrier. The presently claimed invention also provides a process for preparing the catalyst and the catalytic article, and a method of treating a gaseous exhaust stream comprising contacting the stream with the catalyst or catalytic article.

Abstract: The present invention provides a catalytic article comprising a) a first layer comprising a nickel component and a copper component supported on a ceria component, wherein the amount of the nickel component is 0.1 to 30 wt. %, calculated as nickel oxide, based on the total weight of the first layer, and wherein the amount of the copper component is 0.01 to 5.0 wt. % calculated as copper oxide, based on the total weight of the first layer; b) a second layer comprising a platinum group metal component supported on at least one of an oxygen storage component, an alumina component and a zirconia component, wherein the platinum group metal component comprises platinum, rhodium, palladium, or any combination thereof, and wherein the amount of the platinum group metal component is 0.01 to 5.0 wt. % based on the total weight of the second layer; and c) a substrate, wherein the first layer and the second layer are separated by a barrier layer or a gap.

The system comprises a first close coupled three-way conversion catalytic article in fluid communication with an engine exhaust outlet, a catalytic article located downstream of and in fluid communication with the first close coupled three-way conversion catalytic article, a tail-pipe catalytic article arranged downstream in fluid communication and 1.0 to 10 feet away from the catalytic article at a position selected from before or behind a resonator, before or after a muffler, between the resonator and the muffler, inside the muffler, inside the resonator, and at a tail pipe end.

Abstract: The presently claimed invention provides a layered catalytic article and an exhaust system. The catalytic article comprises a first layer comprising platinum, a first platinum group metal component other than platinum, a ceria-alumina composite, and an oxygen storage component; wherein platinum is supported on the ceria-alumina component; the platinum group metal component is selected from palladium, rhodium or a combination thereof and the platinum group metal component is supported on the oxygen storage component; a second layer comprising a second platinum group metal component; and a refractory alumina component, an oxygen storage component or a combination thereof; wherein the second platinum group component is selected from platinum, palladium, rhodium or a combination thereof; and a substrate, wherein the amount of platinum is 10 to 80 wt. %, based on the total weight of platinum, palladium and rhodium. The presently claimed invention also provides a process for the preparation of a layered catalytic article and use of the catalytic article and the exhaust system for purifying a gaseous exhaust stream comprising hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides.

Abstract: Described are three-way conversion (TWC) catalytic articles effective to abate hydrocarbons (HCs), carbon monoxide (CO), and nitrogen oxides (NOx) from an engine exhaust gas containing phosphorous impurities. The disclosed catalytic article has a layered catalytic material, wherein the first layer of the catalytic material is disposed directly on the substrate and a second layer is disposed on top of the first layer. The second layer includes phosphorus resistant materials that prevent catalytic poisoning of the catalytic article by the phosphorous impurities. In particular, the second layer includes a phosphorus trap material having an alkaline earth metal component and a rhodium component impregnated on a phosphorus-resistant support material.

Abstract: The present invention provides a tri-metallic layered catalytic article comprising a first layer comprising palladium supported on at least one of an oxygen storage component, and an alumina component; a second layer comprising platinum and rhodium, each supported on at least one of an oxygen storage component and a zirconia component; and a substrate, wherein the weight ratio of palladium to platinum is in the range of 1.0:0.4 to 1:2. The present invention also provides a process for preparing the tri-metallic layered catalytic article, an exhaust system for internal combustion engine and use of the tri-metallic layered catalytic article for purifying a gaseous exhaust stream.

Abstract: The presently claimed invention provides a layered three-way catalyst composition for purification of exhaust gases from internal combustion engines; said catalyst comprises a first layer comprising i) palladium supported on at least one alumina component and at least one oxygen storage component; and ii) barium oxide; wherein said first layer is essentially free of strontium, and a second layer comprising: i) rhodium supported on at least one zirconia component and/or alumina component; ii) strontium oxide and/or barium oxide; and iii) optionally, palladium supported on at least one alumina component. The presently claimed invention also provides a process for preparing the layered three-way catalyst composition which involves a technique such as incipient wetness impregnation technique(A); co-precipitation technique (B); or co-impregnation technique(C). The process includes preparing a first layer; preparing a second layer; and depositing the second layer on the first layer followed by calcination. The presently claimed invention further provides a a layered three-way catalytic article in which the three-way catalyst composition is deposited on a substrate in a layered fashion and its preparation.

The first layer includes a platinum group metal (PGM) component impregnated on a porous support material; and the second layer includes a rhodium component impregnated on a support material, wherein the support material is a composite material including zirconia doped with baria, alumina, or combinations thereof, wherein the zirconia-based support material includes zirconia in an amount from about 80 to about 99 wt. %.
