Abstract: The present disclosure provides compositions and methods for enhancing oil recovery and protein recovery from a product from a corn fermentation process stream, such as corn syrup. Compositions generally include a product from a corn fermentation stream and an additive including at least one alkylphenol ethoxylate formaldehyde resin, at least one sodium alkyl sulfate, or a blend of at least one anionic surfactant with at least one non-ionic surfactant in a weight ratio of the at least one nonionic surfactant to the at least one anionic surfactant in a range from about 1:20 to about 20:1. Methods combine such an additive with the product from a corn fermentation stream to produce a mixture which is preferably heated and centrifuged to separate oil and protein from the product.

Abstract: A method for degumming and esterification of an oil comprising fatty acid glycerides, free fatty acids, and phospholipids comprises the steps of mixing the oil, a C1 to C5 monohydric alcohol, and methanesulfonic acid to form a reaction mixture, and heating the reaction mixture to esterify the free fatty acids and produce a fatty acid alkylester and water, and to degum the oil. The method further comprises the steps of causing a phase separation between a first phase comprising the C1 to C5 monohydric alcohol, phosphorous compounds, and water, a second phase comprising the fatty acid glycerides and the fatty acid alkylester, and a residual solid phase. Once the phase separation occurs, the second phase is separated from the first phase and the residual solid phase.

Abstract: A corn-to-ethanol production process is disclosed. The process includes the steps of dry-milling corn kernels to form a corn flour; combining the corn flour with water to form a mash; extracting corn oil from the mash; fermenting the mash thereby producing beer and carbon dioxide; distilling the beer to produce ethanol and whole stillage; and processing the whole stillage to produce wet distiller's grains with solubles (WDGS) and/or dried distiller's grains with solubles (DDGS). The step of extracting corn oil from the mash includes the sub steps of: optionally wet-milling the mash; separating the mash to produce a light phase and a heavy phase; adding an alkanesulfonic acid to the light phase; extracting corn oil from the light phase; and combining the light phase having the corn oil extracted therefrom with the heavy phase to reform the mash.
