COBALT PHTHALOCYANINE COMPLEX COMPOUNDS HAVING ONE OR MORE HALOGEN ATOMS LINKED DIRECTLY TO THE COBALT ATOM ARE PREPARED BY REACTING A COBALT PHTHALOCYANINE DISPERSED IN AN ORGANIC LIQUID FREE OF HYDROXY AND AMINO GROUPS AND INERT TO THE REACTANT WITH A HALOGENATING AGENT.

IN WHICH THE CYCLIC RADICAL R IS AN AROMATIC RING, A SUBSTITUTED AROMATIC RING, A TETRAHYDROGENATED AROMATIC RING, A NITROGEN-CONTAINING HETEROCYCLIC RING, OR A SULPHUR-CONTAINING HETERCOYCLIC RING AND R1 AND R2 WHICH ARE DIFFERENT ARE BIVALENT RADICALS OF A COMPOUND WHICH CONTAINS TWO ACTIVE HYDROGEN ATOMS ATTACHED TO A CARBON OR NITOGEN ATOM AND A TWO-STAGE PROCESS FOR MAKING THE SAME. THE ISOINDOLINE DERIVATIVES ARE EXCELLENT DYESTUFFS FOR DYEING AND PRINTING SYNTHETIC FIBER MATERIALS.

COORDINATIVELY HEXAVALENT COMPLEX SALTS OF TRIVALENT COBALT, IN WHICH FOUR OF THE SIX CORRDINATION POINTS AT THE COLBALT ATOM ARE OCCUPIED BY THE PHTHALOCYANINE RING SYSTEM WHICH HAS A DOUBLE NEGATIVE, CHARGE, AND EACH OF THE REMAINING TWO POINTS IS OCCUPIED BY AN AMINE AND PROCESS FOR PREPARING SAID COMPLEX SALTS COMPRISING TREATING COBALT-PHTHALOCYANINES WITH AN OXIDIZING AGENT IN THE PRESENCE OF AN ANION AND WITH AN AMINE. THE COMPLEX SALTS CAN BE USED AS DYESTUFFS FOR LACQUERS, SYNTHETIC MATERIALS AND PASTES FOR BALL POINT PENS.

A BORIC ACID COMPLEX OF A 1,4-DIHYDROXY-ANTHRAQUINONE OR A BORIC ACID COMPLEX OF A 1,4-DIHYDROXY-ANANTHRAQUINONE HAVING 1 TO 2 CHLORINE ATOMS IN THE 2-, 3-, 5-, 6-, 7- OR 8-POSITIONS BUT WITH AT LEAST ONE OF THE 5AND 8-POSITIONS UNSUBSTITUTED, IN A SOLVENT SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF SULPHURIC ACID CONTAINING SO3 AND CHLOROSULPHONIC ACID IN THE PRESENCE OF IODINE, SULPHUR CHLORIDE OR IRON-III-SALTS AS HALOGENATING CATALYST AND SPLITTING OF BORIC ACID BY HYDROLYSIS.
