    Abstract: A fluid pressure actuated piston is slidably carried in a fluid pressure actuated cylinder which, in turn, is slidably carried in a fixed carrier and engageable with a stop which stop is defined by a plurality of balls arranged in a column between a fixed retaining member and the cylinder and contained by a cylinder slidable relative thereto. The ball-containing cylinder is surrounded by the piston which is provided with axially spaced apart abutments one of which is engageable with the ballcontaining cylinder during an extension stroke of the piston thereby displacing the cylinder relative to the column of balls thereby releasing one or more of the balls from the column whereupon the fluid pressure actuated cylinder is urged axially toward the piston and into engagement with the remaining column of balls. Release of all of the balls results in engagement of the ball-containing cylinder with the fixed retaining member thereby extending the range of travel of the piston accordingly.

    Abstract: Automatic brake adjuster and reset apparatus particularly adapted for use in a multiple disc aircraft disc brake and provided with two-stage adjuster means wherein a deformable tube member provides a first range of adjusted brake positions and a permanently crushable annular member provides a second range of adjusted brake positions. The deformable tube member is concentric with a cylindrical casing which bears against the crushable member interposed between the cylindrical casing and a fixed housing. The casing is provided with first and second spaced apart stop portions which are engaged by the spring loaded deformable tube to define a predetermined brake running clearance.

    Abstract: A fluid pressure actuated piston is slidably carried in a fluid pressure actuated cylinder which, in turn, is slidably carried in a fixed carrier and engageable with a fixed stop to extend the range of axial movement of the piston. The fluid pressure actuated cylinder is pressurized to a retracted position until a normally closed valve member is actuated to an open position by the piston at the end of a first permissible stroke thereof in said cylinder whereupon the cylinder is pressurized into engagement with said fixed stop in the direction of movement of said piston to thereby extend the permissible stroke of the piston accordingly.

    Abstract: A flexible tension-torsion coupling particularly adapted to connect a helicopter rotor blade to a rotor hub but useful as a connecting medium between two members wherein similar tension and torsion force loads may be encountered. A plurality of flexible tie bars or belts each preferably of filament wound matrix bound form are arranged in circumferentially spaced apart relationship around and parallel to a pitch change axis passing longitudinally through the rotor blade with one end of each tie bar secured to the rotor hub and the opposite end of each tie bar secured to the rotor blade. All forces including cyclic torsion generated forces are absorbed by the plurality of flexible tie bars which are loaded in tension during rotor rotation. A modified form of the tension-torsion coupling has the plurality of flexible tie bars arranged in circumferentially spaced apart relationship around the pitch change axis with half the plurality of the tie bars angularly disposed to the pitch change axis and the other half of the tie bars oppositely angularly disposed to the pitch change axis.
