摘要: Tools used within a surgical area may be equipped with sensors that allow them to be tracked within the magnetic field of an image guided surgery (IGS) system. The IGS system may be configured to detect various movement patterns of the tools, which may be mapped to and associated with corresponding actions or inputs to the IGS system. In one example, a registration probe may be moved along the x-axis and y-axis, with detected movements identified and received by the IGS system as movements of a mouse cursor on a display of the IGS system. In another example, the registration probe may be moved in a circular pattern, or quickly moved along any of the x-axis, y-axis, or z-axis, with each being configured to cause the IGS system to zoom a display, change a view, record video, or other actions.

摘要: Physicians performing invasive procedures utilize instruments inserted into a human body to perform the procedures. Such procedures typically involve actions to be performed on specific targeted anatomical structures. During the procedure, nearby anatomical structures unrelated to the procedure should generally be avoided. A system and techniques are provided herein for monitoring the position of such unrelated nearby anatomical structures relative to one or more surgical instruments. The system emits a warning to a human operator such as a surgeon if one of the instruments is too close to a monitored anatomical structure.

摘要: A visualization system may be implemented with an image guided surgery navigation system for use during ENT procedures. Correlated datasets such as surgical paths and pre-operative image slices may be correlated with the coordinate system of the navigation system for reference during a procedure. A surgeon may wear a head mounted display (“HMD”) having a transparent screen through which the patient anatomy may be viewed. The orientation and distance of the head mounted display relative to the patient anatomy may be determined using magnetic position tracking, image analysis of images captured by a camera of the HMD, or both. Correlated datasets may then be transformed based on the relative distance and orientation and may be displayed via the transparent screen to overlay directly viewed patient anatomy. Some implementations may include optical fiducials integrated with a patient tracking assembly to aid in tracking the patient and determining perspective of the HMD.

摘要: A dilation catheter includes a catheter shaft, an expandable element, and a navigation sensor. The catheter shaft has a proximal shaft portion defining a proximal shaft end, a distal shaft portion defining a distal shaft end, and a working lumen extending between the proximal and distal shaft ends. The expandable element is disposed on the distal shaft portion proximally of the distal shaft end, and is configured to expand to dilate an anatomical passageway of a patient. The navigation sensor is arranged at the distal shaft portion, and is configured to generate a signal corresponding to a location of the distal shaft portion within the patient. In various examples, the dilation catheter may further include a bulbous distal tip, and the navigation sensor may be arranged within the bulbous distal tip.

The inflatable member is configured to transition between a deflated configuration and an inflated configuration. The interior surface is configured to define a viewing path distal to the endoscopic camera assembly while the inflatable member is in the inflated configuration.

摘要: A surgical instrument and related method includes an instrument body, a guide shaft distally projecting from the instrument body, and a first surgical tool. The guide shaft has a guide sidewall, a guide lumen, and a clearance opening radially extending through the guide sidewall in communication with the guide lumen. The first surgical tool has an elongate body and a distal head configured to deflect relative to the elongate body from a first position to a second position. The distal head in the first position is positioned within the guide lumen along the central axis. The distal head in the second position is deflected from the central axis and extends at least partially through the clearance opening thereby vacating at least a portion of the guide lumen for introducing a second surgical tool through the guide lumen.

摘要: A surgical instrument includes an outer tube configured to be gripped by a user, and a needle slidably disposed within the outer tube. The needle includes a needle lumen, a distal needle tip configured to pierce tissue, and an electrode disposed at the distal needle tip. The needle lumen opens to the distal needle tip such that the distal needle tip is configured to deliver fluid from the needle lumen to tissue. The electrode is operable to deliver RF energy to tissue for ablating the tissue. The needle is translatable relative to the outer tube between a proximal retracted position in which the distal needle tip is housed coaxially within the outer tube, and a distal extended position in which the distal needle tip is exposed from the outer tube and configured to pierce tissue.

摘要: Variations of integral navigation controls may be used in conjunction with a medical instrument to provide navigation functions for an image guided surgery (IGS) system that is in communication with the integral navigation controls. In some variations, a medical instrument with integrated navigation wheels allows movement of a cursor of the IGS system along the x and y axis by scrolling the wheel, or allows selection, zooming, or other controls by combined clicking and/or scrolling of wheels, and may be sterilized or discarded along with the device. In some other variations, a control overlay may be temporarily attached to the medical instrument to provide additional controls, such as buttons or a pointing stick, and then removed and sterilized or discarded after a procedure. In each variation, inputs may be communicated via wire or wirelessly to an IGS system to provide navigation of images during a surgical procedure.

摘要: An ablation instrument includes a shaft that extends from a grip portion. A curved portion of the shaft is shaped to allow insertion into the head of a patient, and to position an ablation tip that extends from a distal tip of the shaft proximate to an ablation target, such as the posterior nasal nerve. When activated the ablation tip projects radiofrequency energy to ablate nearby tissue. An ablation assistance features of an image guided surgery navigation system is configured to segment and identify ablation targets within a set of pre-operative images. When a position tracked ablation instrument is configured for use, the system begins to monitor the proximity of the ablation tip to the ablation targets. When the tip is within an effective distance of the target for ablation, the system provides an alert and activates the instrument so that RF energy may be projected.
