Abstract: Various aspects include approaches for controlling audio playback based upon a detected user sleep state. In one implementation, a computer-implemented method of controlling playback of an audio file at a wearable audio device includes: receiving a first indicator about movement or a position of an audio gateway over a period; receiving a second indicator about movement or position of the wearable audio device over the period, wherein the wearable audio device is separate from the audio gateway; and in response to the first indicator deviating from the second indicator by less than a threshold for the period, inserting a marker in the audio file that enables a user to revert back to the playback at a time of the marker.

Abstract: A system encourages experimentation with audio frequency and speaker technologies while causing an inanimate figure to appear to dance. The system applies a bandpass filter to an incoming audio stream (e.g., in a low frequency bass band). The system monitors the magnitude of the audio content in a frequency band of interest. When an amplitude peak or other threshold magnitude is detected, a controller injects a short pulse (e.g., 3 cycles) of a sub-audible low frequency sine wave to a platform. Preferably, the sub-audible low frequency sine wave is at a resonance frequency of the platform to maximize its movement. The figure is positioned on the platform and appears to dance to the beat of the music.

Abstract: A device, system and method for audio transmission quality assessment that occurs during the transmission. A transmission channel such as the internet is used to transmit speech that is spoken by a human speaker, captured at a first end, and transmitted over the transmission channel for reproduction at a second end. The processors at each end of the transmission channel are configured to determine one or more characteristics of the speech such as phonemes. The phonemes are transmitted over a backchannel of the transmission channel to a processor that compares the speech characteristics that were determined at both ends of the call. The participants are notified of a transmission problem that has had an effect on the intelligibility of the speech that was reproduced at the far end if the comparison does not meet a predetermined quality metric.

Abstract: An audio system includes a base station, an interface that enables wireless transmission of audio content from a handheld media device to the base station, and one or more remote speakers configured to receive the audio content from the base station. The base station includes a housing, a speaker integrated within the housing to produce an audible signal from the audio content provided by the handheld media device, and a transceiver integrated within the housing for wirelessly transmitting the audio content to the one or more remote speakers. The one or more remote speakers are configured to wirelessly relay the audio content, thereby to supply the audio content beyond the transmission range of the transceiver.
