Abstract:
A display panel comprises a plurality of gas-filled cells arranged in rows and columns and including electrode means for firing said cells in a predetermined pattern. The panel also includes a mask having a pattern of openings and overlaying the cells so that the glow of selected cells glowing through selected ones of said openings provides a display of a character.
Abstract:
THE DISPLAY PANEL IS GAS-FILLED AND INCLUDES A PLURALITY OF CHARACTER POSITIONS. THE PANEL IS OF A SANDWICH CONSTRUCTION AND INCLUDES A BASE PLATE ON WHICH A PLURALITY OF GROUPS OF CATHODES AND THEIR CONDUCTORS OR LEADS ARE FORMED. THE CATHODES ARE IN THE FORM OF BARS OR SEGMENTS AND CAN DISPLAY A CHARACTER. THE CATHODES ARE COATED WITH A LAYER OF MERCURY TO PREVENT SPUTTERING DURING NORMAL OPERATION. THE PANEL ALSO INCLUDES AN ANODE ELECTRODE FOR EACH GROUP OF CATHODES AND A FACE PLATE, SPACED FROM THE BASE PLATE.
Abstract:
The display device is of a sandwich construction and includes a base plate on which a plurality of the electrode components of the device are formed by a screening or printing process or the like. The base plate may also include a sheet of metal having an insulating coating, the metal sheet having preformed portions which can be used to support electrode contacts after the entire device has been assembled.
Abstract:
A gas-filled display panel includes a plurality of groups of cathode electrode segments, each group having an anode electrode, the cathodes in each group being selectively energizable, with the associated anode, to glow and display a character. The cathode electrode segments are made up of strips of conductive material covered by an insulating layer which has at least one aperture exposing each conductive strip and with a conductive member in each aperture in direct contact with the associated conductive strip. Each conductive member comprises a cathode which can glow, with the glow filling the aperture in which the conductive member is seated. The cathodes are selectively energized so that the combined glow represents a character.
Abstract:
A flat display panel comprising a plurality of gas-filled lightproducing cells, each having at least two electrodes for energizing the cell. The panel includes various structural features including projections on the electrodes which extend into the cells to aid in positioning the electrodes and maintaining alignment between the electrodes and cells, the shaping of the electrodes to achieve minimal leakage between cells, the provision of structural features to minimize cathode sputtering, etc. Various arrangements are also described for generating different colors of light.
Abstract:
A display panel includes a plurality of gas-filled glow cells including means for scanning the cells in raster fashion with unique starting means for initiating the scanning operation and with means at the end of the scanning operation for energizing the starting means.
Abstract:
Multiple position display panels for displaying one or more characters side-by-side in one or more rows and including a plurality of parallel elongated conductors bearing a plurality of flat cathode segments along their length and an anode associated with each group of the display segments. Portions of the cathodeconnecting conductors are offset and are disposed within grooves or depressions in an insulating sheet or are embedded in an insulating layer where the cathode elements cross them. A slotted insulating sheet is disposed between the cathode elements and the anodes, the slots being aligned with the cathodes, and the assembly is sealed in a gaseous atmosphere at a suitable pressure.
Abstract:
A display device includes an envelope having a gas filling, at least one anode electrode, and at least one cathode electrode for operation therewith. The cathode electrode comprises a metal plate having a conductive coating comprising pure metal particles in a glass carrier matrix.
