    摘要: A head gasket (48) which acts, when clamped between a cylinder head (28) and a block (22) in a liquid cooled internal combustion engine (20), to form a seal around the combustion chambers (24). A coolant flow path (32) routes through the engine (20) and its directed, in part, through the cylinder head (28) and the block (22), with a corresponding flow opening (54) formed in the head gasket (48) to accommodate flow of liquid coolant in a normal direction. The head gasket (48) includes a one-way valve (58) positioned in the flow opening (54) to allow the flow of coolant in a normal direction but to prevent the flow of liquid coolant through the flow opening (54) in an abnormal, reverse direction. The one-way valve (58) includes movable gate (66) which may be biased against a valve seat (64) in a normally closed condition. The one-way valve (58) can be made as a loose piece article of manufacture which is held in flow opening (54) by self-locking retention clips.

At least one of these layers has a circumferential compression control feature in the form of a protrusion or groove which varies in thickness or depth, respectively, around its circumference. The variable thickness of the compression control feature enables uniform sealing pressure on the sealing surfaces of the gasket.

    摘要: A metal gasket includes embossments that exhibit essentially full functional recovery and full retained internal stress at temperatures up to about 1000° F. which is made from sheet material that is cold rolled and whose embossments are work hardened without any post embossment heat treating that would act to harden the material. This material may also receive a precipitation hardening heat treatment prior to being embossed. The gasket materials include alloys having greater than about 18% Ni, greater than about 14% Cr, from about 0.1 to 10% of at least one of Mo, Ti, V, Al, Co, Nb, Ta or Cu and the balance Fe with incidental impurities, which are cold rolled without any post embossment heat treating that would act to harden the material.

    摘要: A flanged cover assembly includes a cover having a wall portion, a lateral attachment flange surrounding the wall portion extending outwardly therefrom and a plurality of spaced flange bores extending through the flange from a upper surface to a lower surface. The bores are adapted to receive a corresponding plurality of fasteners which are adapted to be inserted through the bores and secure the cover to a base. The invention also includes a spring retainer which is adapted to extend along at least a portion of the outer surface of the lateral attachment flange. The spring retainer has a plurality of spaced retainer bores corresponding to at least two of the spaced flange bores and at least one shaped spring portion that is adapted to contact the upper surface of the lateral attachment flange mediate the spaced flange bores. The assembly may also include a cover gasket having a plurality of bores corresponding to the plurality of spaced flange bores and spaced retainer bores. The shaped spring portion is adapted to apply a spring force to the lateral attachment flange when the fasteners are inserted through the plurality of spaced retainer bores and the plurality of spaced flange bores and used to secure the cover and the gasket to the base.

    摘要: A compression sensor gasket assembly and method of construction thereof is provided. The compression sensor gasket assembly includes a gasket body having opposite sealing surfaces extending between an outer periphery and an inner periphery with the inner periphery bounding a through opening. The gasket body has a passage extending from the outer periphery through the inner periphery and a pressure sensor assembly releasably attached to the gasket body in the passage and being configured to sense pressure within the through opening. The pressure sensor assembly can be removed from the gasket body in service without having to disassemble clamped members from clamped abutment with the gasket assembly. Further, the pressure sensor assembly can be routed over a curved path extending between the outer and inner peripheries to navigate about features that may be present in the gasket body.
