Abstract: A rapid compression machine (RCM) employs an electrical drive to move a piston disposed within a chamber housing. The electrical drive converts electrical power into linear motion of the piston, for example, to compress contents in a reaction chamber defined by the chamber housing and the piston. The temperature and pressure changes induced by the compression can cause reaction of contents within the chamber, for example, autoignition of the contents. The RCM can thus be used to study chemical kinetics. In some embodiments, the electrical drive can also rapidly move the piston in reverse to expand a volume of the reaction chamber, for example, to quench the compression-induced reaction therein. In such embodiments, the RCM may be considered a rapid compression-expansion machine (RCEM) and can be used for speciation studies.

Two ends of the manifold body are provided with sensors electrically connected with the single chip microcomputer unit.

Abstract: A sensor failure diagnostic apparatus includes a first estimation unit to estimate a mixing ratio of each type of a molecular structure included in a fuel, based on combustion parameters when a combustion of an internal combustion engine is executed in different combustion conditions, among the combustion parameters sensed by a combustion sensor, a second estimation unit to estimate the mixing ratio, based on characteristic parameters sensed by a characteristic sensor, a combustion sensor diagnostic unit to determine whether a failure of the combustion sensor exists, based on a sensed value of the combustion sensor when the combustion is not executed, and a characteristic sensor diagnostic unit to determine whether a failure of the characteristic sensor exists, by comparing the mixing ratio estimated by the first estimation unit with the mixing ratio estimated by the second estimation unit when the combustion sensor diagnostic unit determines the combustion sensor is normal.

The pressure sensor adaptor includes a first end, a second end, a threaded section, a cylindrical midsection, and an annular section; and a pressure sensor channel that comprises an opening in the first end and an opening in a second end and spans from the first end to the second end through the threaded section, the cylindrical midsection, and the annular section. The pressure sensor may be housed in the pressure sensor channel of the pressure sensor adaptor.

Abstract: A method for determining the quantity of filling components in a cylinder of an internal combustion engine. The cylinder is connected to an air supply via an inlet valve and to an exhaust gas conduit via an outlet valve. The method includes the steps of obtaining an exhaust gas back pressure at a specified point in time when the outlet valve is opened during a work cycle of the internal combustion engine and calculating the quantity of the filling components at the specified point in time on the basis of the obtained exhaust gas back pressure. A controller is also provided for carrying out the method and a motor vehicle is also provided that includes the controller.

Abstract: A failure diagnosis device for an in-cylinder pressure sensor includes an in-cylinder pressure sensor, and a controller comprised of circuitry configured to execute a diagnosis module into which a signal of the in-cylinder pressure sensor is inputted and configured to diagnose a failure of the sensor based on the signal. The diagnosis module includes a reading module configured to read the signals of the in-cylinder pressure sensor at a first timing that is a timing retarded by a specific crank angle from a compression top dead center, and at a second timing that is a timing advanced by the specific crank angle from the compression top dead center, and a failure determining module configured to determine that the in-cylinder pressure sensor has failed when the failure determining module determines that a difference between signal values at the first timing and at the second timing exceeds a predefined threshold.

Abstract: In adjustment processing executed at the same period as waveform analysis processing, a CPU of a microcomputer permits an execution of the waveform analysis processing on condition that the waveform analysis processing has been completed. Thus a period of non-execution of the waveform analysis processing is ensured between a completion of preceding waveform analysis processing to an execution of next waveform analysis processing. Since low priority processing, which has been disabled to be executed, is enabled to be executed, it is possible to stop continuation of disablement of execution of the low priority processing.
