摘要: Described herein are biological devices and methods for using the same to produce carbo sugars. The biological devices include microbial cells transformed with a DNA construct containing genes for producing a cellulose synthase and galactomannan galactosyltransferase. In some instances, the biological devices also include a gene for lipase. Methods for altering the viscosity of petroleum oil using the carbo sugars are also described herein. Finally, methods for degreasing or decontaminating water mixed with petroleum oil or other fatty substances or a surface coated with petroleum oil or other fatty substances using the carbo sugars are described herein.

摘要: Described herein are genelight cultures and extracts and methods of making and using thereof. In one aspect, the method of making a genelight culture or extract includes the steps of (a) making a DNA construct containing genes for producing a heat shock protein, RuBisCO large subunit 1, tonB, hydrogenase, and a P-type ATPase, (b) introducing the DNA construct into host microbial cells via transformation or transfection, and (c) culturing the microbial cells to produce the genelight cultures and extracts. The compositions of these cultures and extracts can be tailored to have specific properties such as the ability to provide power to a light emitting diode. The cultures and extracts have further uses including enhancing the growth of plants and as supplemental nutrients of cultures of industrially important microorganisms. The cultures and extracts further have UV-protective properties. Also described herein are microbial electric circuits containing the cultures and extracts described herein.

摘要: Described herein are devices and methods for simultaneously expressing amyloid precursor protein and TonB protein. These devices and methods increase the production of these two proteins while also minimizing costs, making the proteins more widely accessible for medical research purposes, including the development of diagnostic tests for numerous diseases associated with elevated production of amyloid proteins. The amyloid precursor protein and TonB produced by the devices and methods described herein, as well as the devices themselves, can be used in experiments designed to model the interactions between metals and amyloids such as β-amyloid that are characteristic of numerous diseases such as Alzheimer's. Finally, provided herein are diagnostic tests that can detect Alzheimer's disease in samples from patients; the tests are sensitive enough to identify diseases such as Alzheimer's even at pre-clinical stages, before the appearance of symptoms.

摘要: Described herein are carbo-ionic cultures and extracts and applications thereof. The carbo-ionic cultures are grown in media containing an organic component and an inorganic component and the proportions and compositions of these components can be tailored to produce carbo-ionic extracts with specific properties such as, for example, the ability to provide power to a light emitting diode (LED) with a specific voltage. The carbo-ionic cultures and extracts have further uses including enhancing the growth of plants, including plants grown from tissue culture, and as supplemental nutrients for cultures of industrially, commercially, and/or scientifically-important microorganisms. Also described herein are microbial electric circuits comprising the carbo-ionic cultures and extracts described herein as well as applications of those circuits.
