    摘要: In an operating system, a function to address resources in executable files is modified to redirect calls for resources to language-specific resources responsively to a user-setting defining a selected language. The language-specific resources are contained in alternate language modules through a dynamic addressing scheme that allows the alternate language file suite to be expanded without modification to any central routing facility. The invention provides resource-handling components the capability for handling multiple-language resources without requiring any specific directions from the processes requesting the resources This allows the operating system to provide multilingual support while using existing resource and executable binary files without modification. A user is enabled to select a language for the user interface and the resource loader will automatically redirect calls for resources to the appropriate resources.

    摘要: In an operating system, a resource handler accepts resource requests from application modules. A resource request identifies a module from which the requested resource is to be obtained. Rather than providing the resource from the identified module, however, the resource handler provides the requested resource from an associated resource module. An association between an executable module and resource modules of different languages is created by a defined file naming convention, optionally using different directories for resource modules of different languages. Some executable modules contain a shared resource reference which can be used to create an association between multiple executable modules and a single set of shared resource modules. A language fallback mechanism allows alternative languages to be used where resource modules of the appropriate language are not available.

In some embodiments a tuner module and/or a tester module are configured to cooperate with a speech recognition system. The tester and tuner modules can be configured to cooperate with each other. The image file format includes a plurality of streams such as a control stream, a data stream, a bitmap stream, and a cluster map stream. The image file is used to restore the storage media to a previous state or allows multiple computers to be provided with a common configuration. The plurality of streams further allow the image file to be viewed, edited or otherwise manipulated.

    摘要: A system and method for generating a unique identifier for a computer system is disclosed. A master computer system is prepared for duplication and configured to execute a startup program on the next boot-up sequence. The master computer system is then shut down and duplicated. On the first boot-up of the copy or “clone” computer system, a new unique identifier is created and used to replace all instances of the old unique identifier that was associated with the master computer system. Finally, a setup wizard component is executed to finish configuring the clone computer system in accordance with the customer's personal information making the system ready for commercial use.
