Abstract: An eartip includes a compliant portion that forms at least a portion of a sound channel, and a wax guard that is supported in the compliant portion and is disposed within the sound channel. The wax guard includes a porous, planar body that permits the passage of acoustic energy but inhibits the passage of cerumen therethrough, and a retention member. The retention member is arranged along an outer edge of the planar body and in direct contact with the compliant portion. The retention member includes a plurality of openings. A compliant material that forms the compliant portion permeates the openings in the retention member to assist in retaining the wax guard in the compliant portion.

Abstract: Techniques for user authentication via in-ear acoustic measurements are disclosed. An in-ear device emits an acoustic signal and detects an otic response to the acoustic signal. A user signature is generated based at least on the otic response to the acoustic signal. The user signature is compared with a reference signature, to determine whether the in-ear device has changed users.

In some particular implementations, a computer-implemented method of controlling a wearable audio device configured to provide an audio output includes: receiving data indicating the wearable audio device is proximate a geographic location associated with a localized audio message; providing a prompt to initiate playback of the localized audio message to a user of the wearable audio device; and initiating playback of the localized audio message at the wearable audio device in response to actuation of the prompt by the user.

Abstract: An ear tip for an earpiece including a body, an insertion end, and a retention structure. Some examples include an elongated fin along a portion of an outer leg of the retention structure. Some examples include an extended insertion end configured to insert further into a user's ear canal and including a mushroom cap for providing contact with an interior portion of the user's ear canal and to form an acoustic seal. Some examples may include an umbrella associated with the insertion end, between the mushroom cap and the body. Electrically conductive elements may be associated with any of the elongated fin, the umbrella, and the mushroom cap, to provide electrical contact with the user's skin for sensing electrical signals or for delivery of electrical stimulation.

Abstract: An earphone includes an electro-acoustic transducer and an earphone assembly. The electro-acoustic transducer is configured to generate an acoustic signal in response to an electrical signal. The earphone assembly has an inner surface and an earphone acoustic opening. The electro-acoustic transducer is disposed inside the earphone assembly and defines a front cavity between the electro-acoustic transducer and the earphone acoustic opening along a first portion of the inner surface and a back cavity between the electro-acoustic transducer and a second portion of the inner surface. The earphone assembly further includes an acoustic impedance branch having an impedance aperture in acoustic communication with the front cavity. The acoustic impedance branch includes an acoustic resistive element and a branch volume that reduce a resonance at a first resonance frequency for an occluded ear canal defined by the front cavity of the earphone assembly and an ear canal of a user.
