Abstract: A medical system having a medical tool, including a handle, a shaft extending from the handle and defining a lumen, a wire attached to and extending from the handle through the lumen, expandable elements at a distal end of the wire. An electrical generator is coupled to a proximal end of the wire and supplies a first waveform to the wire and the expandable elements as the expandable elements expand from an unexpanded state to an expanded state within a tissue. The electrical generator supplies a second waveform to the wire and the expandable elements when the expandable elements are in the expanded state within the tissue. The first waveform cuts tissue, the second waveform ablates tissue using radiofrequency ablation or irreversible electroporation.

Abstract: Aspects of positioning devices, methods, and systems are disclosed. An exemplary method comprises: moving a distal end of a tube into a body, the tube including a lumen and a shaft in the lumen, the shaft having a transducer; sending a first signal to the transducer; passing, with the transducer, in response to the first signal, a wave energy into the body; receiving, with the transducer, a reflected portion of the wave energy; generating, with the transducer, a second signal in response to the reflected portion of the wave energy; determining, with a processor, an indicia of the body in response to the second signal; and identifying, with the indicia, a targeted issue in the body; positioning the distal end of the tube at the targeted tissue in response to the indicia; and removing a portion of the targeted tissue with the distal end of the tube.

Abstract: An energy delivery system may include an expandable member having a plurality of electrodes, including pairs of adjacent electrodes, and a generator configured to supply an electric voltage to each of the plurality of electrodes. The energy delivery system also may include a controller coupled to the plurality of electrodes and the generator. The controller may be configured to measure an impedance of tissue disposed between the electrodes of each pair of adjacent electrodes, and determine, based on the measured impedances, whether cancerous tissue is disposed between any of the electrodes of each pair of adjacent electrodes. The controller also may be configured to apply a voltage between the electrodes of each pair of adjacent electrodes determined to have cancerous tissue disposed between them.

Abstract: An ablation device includes a needle extending from a proximal end which, during use, remains outside a body accessible to a user to a tissue penetrating distal tip, the needle defining a lumen extending therethrough to a distal end of the needle. The ablation device also includes a first ablation electrode mounted on a distal portion of the needle in combination with an inner tube received within the lumen of the needle separating the lumen of the needle into an inner cooling fluid supply lumen and an annular fluid return lumen. In addition, the ablation device includes a source of cooling fluid supplying cooling fluid to the cooling fluid supply lumen and withdrawing fluid from the fluid return lumen to remove heat from the first electrode to maintain a temperature of the first electrode below a predetermined threshold temperature.
