    摘要: An improved cutting tooth configuration in which, unlike the conventional, straight line tool pattern with its constant tool rise, each tooth is incrementally advanced relative to the prior tooth by an amount that progressively decreases. This accounts for the variations in reaction force on the cutting teeth caused by workpiece deflections, so that the net thickness of material removed by each cutting tooth remains relatively constant. Instability and variation in the cutting force are thereby avoided, and tool wear is decreased.

    摘要: The disclosure reveals a computer vision technique to measure flank and crater wear of a single point cutting tool. This direct tool wear measurement method uses a microscope mounted camera to acquire an image of the tool. Special lighting of a face of the tool shows contrast of the wear region in the image. The image analysis is based on an interactive procedure utilizing a general purpose image processing system. A computer program calculates ten parameters to characterize flank and crater wear.

    摘要: A main bearing cap for an internal combustion engine has a longitudinally extending body defined in pan by parallel sides which terminate in first and second end portions. The bearing cap has a centrally located, semi-cylindrical bearing recess which cooperates with a corresponding recess in the engine crankcase to support journals of a crankshaft along a crankcase axis. The first and second end portions of the bearing cap include laterally outwardly extending flanged feet having end faces which mate with corresponding surfaces on the engine crankcase. The flanged feet operate against the engine crankcase to limit motion of the bearing cap body.
