Methods and systems are provided that may be utilized to make completion design an integral part of the well planning process by enabling the rapid evaluation of completion performance. This integration may include an earth model and may specify wellpath parameters, completion parameters, and other parameters in a simulation of operations using the earth model. The simulation generates well performance measures, which may be optimized depending on well performance technical limits. The optimization may be used to maximize an objective function. The system may include multiple users at the same or different locations (e.g. over a network) interacting through graphic user interfaces (GUI's).

Systems and methods are provided for determining a reservoir property distinct from a near-wellbore/completion characteristic. The methods include obtaining non-transient well data regarding a measurable characteristic of a well that is used to establish a functional relationship between a reservoir property, a near-wellbore/completion characteristic, and the measurable characteristic of the well. A model that relates the reservoir property and the near-wellbore/completion characteristic is used to generate a modeled near-wellbore/completion characteristic value from an input reservoir property value, or vice versa. The input value and the modeled value are then tested against the well data using the functional relationship. The model is used repeatedly with different input values until a validated reservoir property value and a validated near-wellbore/completion characteristic value are identified that at least substantially satisfy the functional relationship. The validated reservoir property value and the validated near-wellbore/completion characteristic are reported for use in business decisions regarding one or more wells.

Methods and system for incorporating downhole and surface data with models and adjustment algorithms to back allocate flow rates of commingled zones. The models include fluid flow in the reservoir and wellbore, pressure drop across a choke, and fluid flow in the well completion. The models are coupled with an algorithm for comparing the results from the individual commingled zones to the total cumulative commingled volume and adjusting at least one predicted rate so that they match the measured flow rate over a specified time period. One method utilizes a reassignment factor for the adjustment of the predicted rates. These comparisons and allocation adjustments can be accomplished even when the frequency of the commingled flow rate and cumulative measurements, and the frequency of the predicted rates from the model differ from each other and the specified time period.

Fluid plugs as downhole sealing devices and methods include providing a stimulating fluid to a casing conduit that is defined by the production casing to stimulate a portion of a subterranean formation within which the production casing extends. The methods further may include providing a sealing fluid to the casing conduit, providing a sealing device to the casing conduit, and flowing the sealing fluid and the sealing device to a perforated section of the production casing. The methods further may include locating the sealing device on a perforation, generating a fluid plug within the perforated section of the production casing by increasing a viscosity of the sealing fluid, and retaining the sealing device proximate the perforation with the fluid plug.
