    摘要: An apparatus and method for variable length coding are provided. The apparatus for variable length coding includes a central processing unit which has a software module programmed in advance for variable length coding in a predetermined method, performs variable length coding of input symbol data by using the software module, and generates variable length code information. The apparatus further includes a bitstream processor which is a separate processor receiving the variable length code information from the central processing unit and generating a bitstream. According to the apparatus and method, modification or addition of a VLC table can be more easily performed through downloading software such that new video data coding standards can be easily supported. Also, by implementing the bitstream processor as a separate dedicated processor and thus implementing variable length coding as a software module, load to the central processing unit is reduced and high speed processing is enabled.

The method of encoding moving images includes selecting a modified multiplication factor table in block units in consideration of noise information of the input image, integer-transforming the input image, and quantizing the input image using the selected modified multiplication factor table. Consequently, the efficiency and performance of compressing moving images can be enhanced.

    摘要: An image representation method for representing an image using triangular mesh which is adaptively formed based on a degree of texture description of the image. The image representation method includes segmenting an image using regular rectangular grids, where each vertex point of the rectangular grid is an individual pixel within an image; generating regular triangular meshes with respect to the image using pixel data associated with four vertex points of each respective rectangular grid formed by the segmentation; computing the degree of texture description of the image relative to respective control points, which correspond to the vertex points of the regular triangular meshes; removing a control point with the least texture description among the texture descriptions calculated for the control points; triangulating a region of support which is enclosed by control points neighboring the removed control point and associated with the removed control point, into irregular triangular meshes such that each neighboring control point functions as a vertex point; and repeating the steps of 1) control point removal, 2) triangulation of the region of support associated to the removed control point, and 3) removal of meshes on the basis of the texture description associated with the remaining control points until the number of the remaining control points after triangulation reaches a predetermined number.
