Abstract: A stent delivery assembly includes a delivery balloon defining a balloon axis, and a stent disposed around the delivery balloon. The stent has interconnected struts, and the delivery balloon has a balloon surface with a number of strips that are disposed on the balloon surface and extend along the balloon axis, the strips having an unhydrated state and a hydrated state, the strips having a smaller volume in the unhydrated state than in the hydrated state. For a stent composed of axially aligned segments connected via connectors disposed between adjacent ones of the segments, the strips have a length greater than an axial distance between axially outermost connectors connecting the adjacent ones of the segments.

Abstract: A method of sequenced deployment of an endovascular device comprises delivering, into a body vessel, a Nitinol structural element comprising n deployable regions each having a local austenite finish temperature above body temperature. The local austenite finish temperature of at least one of the n deployable regions is different from the local austenite finish temperature of another of the n deployable regions. During and/or after delivery, the Nitinol structural element is heated above body temperature, and each of the n deployable regions is deployed when the local austenite finish temperature thereof is reached. Thus, a deployed configuration of an endovascular device is achieved in a sequenced deployment process.

Abstract: A magnetic field device for directing a magnetic coupling source includes an electrical power source, a control module, a muzzle, and an electromagnet adjacent the muzzle and connected to the electrical power source. A magnetic sensor within the muzzle is adjacent to the electromagnet. A magnet loading chamber is adjacent to the electromagnet magnetic and opposite to the magnetic sensor. The magnet loading chamber is configured to accommodate one or more permanent magnets. A magnetic shield surrounds exterior surfaces of the electromagnet and magnet loading chamber. A user operable control device is electrically connected to the electromagnet and to the electrical power source. The control device regulates an amount of electric current from the electrical power source to the electromagnet. A magnet guidewire delivery system includes a guide wire having a magnetic element and a magnetic field device generating a magnetic field that couples with the magnetic element.

Abstract: A method of making a superelastic medical device with a radiopaque marker includes threading a radiopaque marker having an elongated shape over a wire comprising a shape memory alloy. After the threading, the wire is secured in a predetermined configuration to a mandrel. While secured to the mandrel, the wire is heat set in an environment comprising an inert gas so as to impart a memory of the predetermined configuration to the wire and superelastic properties to the shape memory alloy. A superelastic medical device including the radiopaque marker is thus formed.

Abstract: A medical device, deployment systems and methods of use thereof are provided. The medical device includes at least one anchor element coupled to a device body. The anchor element has a first configuration disposed about an anchor axis and configured to pierce a body tissue wall. In a second configuration, the anchor elements have an enlarged shape, and in response to a temperature rise in the anchor element, the pierced body tissue wall is drawn closer to the device body. The anchor element maintains alignment substantially with the anchor axis to inhibit tearing of the pierced body tissue wall by the anchor element. The system may include balloons for targeting the radial pressure of the anchor elements into the body vessel wall. The anchor elements may be made of shape memory materials capable of localized heating due to an induction device.

Abstract: A stent has a tubular shaped framework that includes a plurality of vertices that are each defined by a pair of struts. A plurality of induction responsive muscles are associated, respectively, with one of the plurality of vertices by being attached to each strut of a pair of struts. The induction responsive muscles have a relaxed state at body temperatures, and have a contracted state at an elevated temperature greater than body temperature. If the stent has an initial unsatisfactory implant orientation or position or other expansion irregularity, the application of an electromagnetic induction field may be applied to temporary 11 reduce the diameter of the stent to adjust its positioning and/or orientation.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a stent graft device with improved visualization characteristics and a method for making such a device. The device includes a plurality of radiopaque rings and associated structures, which are folded in a predictable fashion prior to crimping. In some embodiments, a mandrel for biasing the end rings of a ringed structure is utilized. In other embodiments, a biodegradable adhesive is used to assist in folding.
