    Abstract: A forceps includes an instrument housing, an elongated shaft assembly extending distally from the instrument housing, and a rotation knob assembly. The rotation knob assembly is supported in the instrument housing and includes a rotation knob and an inner housing. The rotation knob is coupled to the shaft assembly and positioned to rotate about the inner housing to rotate the elongated shaft assembly relative to the instrument housing. The inner housing is coupled to the instrument housing and supports electrical contacts configured to transmit electrical energy through the rotation knob assembly.

    Abstract: An electrosurgical instrument including an end effector assembly having first and second jaw members and at least first and second thermal cutting elements. Each of the first and second jaw members includes an electrically conductive tissue contacting surface. At least one of the first or second jaw members is movable relative to the other from a spaced apart position to an approximated position to grasp tissue between the tissue contacting surfaces. The first and second jaw members are adapted to connect to a source of energy for electrosurgically treating tissue grasped between the tissue contacting surfaces. Each of the first and second thermal cutting elements is disposed on or within one of the first or second jaw members and adapted to connect to a source of energy for thermally treating tissue.

The controller is configured to control the power converter to output an RF waveform to achieve conductor breakthrough through the polymeric dielectric coating.
