摘要： The invention relates to a dental floss product comprising a unitary tape of ultra-high molar mass polyethylene having an intrinsic viscosity of at least 5 dl/g, as measured in decalin at 135□C, the tape having a thickness of about 0.02-0.1 mm and a width of about 0.25-6 mm, and a tensile strength of at least 1.8 GPa. The dental floss product has very high mechanical, especially tensile strength, shows high resistance to tearing and has a low coefficient of friction. The tape can be inserted between teeth tightly together without breaking. A further advantage of the dental tape is that it retains most of its initial strength during flossing, even if the tape separates into filaments. The invention further relates to a process of making a unitary tape suitable for use in a dental floss product.

摘要： The invention relates to an elongate surgical repair product comprising a cable of which bending stiffness can be lowered, which fibrous member is a heat-set cable comprising at least 50 mass % of high-performance polyethylene yarn. The product shows very high tenacity, combined with a relatively high initial bending stiffness that is significantly reduced upon bending or flexing the member, without significant dimensional change; and allows both easy and well-controlled handling and good knot tying characteristics. 摘要： The invention relates to a process for making a monofilament-like product from a precursor containing at least one strand of fibres made from ultra-high molar mass polyethylene, comprising a) exposing the precursor to a temperature within the melting point range of the polyethylene for a time sufficient to at least partly fuse adjacent fibres and b) simultaneously stretching the precursor, wherein the precursor is mechanically compressed during fusing. The monofilament-like product thus made has a smoother surface appearance, and improved abrasion resistance, for example a reduced tendency to pilling during use as fishing line, than known similar products; making it very suitable for use as fishing line and the like. The invention further relates to a monofilament-like product obtainable by said process, and to semi-finished and end-use products comprising said monofilament-like product.
