    Abstract: Provided herein is a system including a resistor grid comprising a plurality of resistor elements, the resistor grid electrically coupled to a motor of an electric drive machine; a temperature sensor arranged to measure a temperature of at least one of the plurality of resistor elements; a control circuit comprising one or more processors and memory structured to store instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the control circuit to: determine a temperature of the least one resistor element, according to measurements from the temperature sensor; and determine a resistive braking capacity of the resistor grid within a power capacity differential, according to the determined temperature of the resistor element; and a display configured to render a graphical representation of the resistive braking capacity of the resistor grid relative to the power capacity differential.

    Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for a modular resistor grid system include a mount and a plurality of modular resistor grid assemblies that interchangeably couple to the mount. At least two modular resistor grid assemblies are in the plurality. Each has a housing and a plurality of resistor plates. Each housing has input and output terminals. Each plurality of resistor plates is connected between the input and the output terminal of a housing. Each resistor plate has a thickness, and each plurality of resistor plates provides a target electrical resistance for a modular resistor grid assembly. A first modular resistor grid assembly has a first number of resistor plates with a first thickness. A second modular resistor grid assembly has a second number of resistor plates with a second thickness. The first number of resistor plates is greater than the second number. The first thickness is greater than the second thickness.

    Abstract: Provided herein is a system including: a resistor grid electrically coupled to a motor of an electric drive machine; a fan including a plurality of fan blades rotatably coupled to a fan motor; a speed sensor configured to measure a rotational speed of the fan; and a control circuit comprising one or more processors and a memory structured to store instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the control circuit to: determine an active cooling capacity of the fan according to the measured rotational speed of the fan while the fan motor is in an active cooling mode; determine a passive cooling capacity of the fan according to the measured rotational speed of the fan after the fan motor is switched from the active cooling mode to an off mode; control power to the fan motor to provide a target cooling load according to the active cooling capacity of the fan and the passive cooling capacity of the fan.

    Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods relate to modular resistor grid assemblies having a “black box” resistance. The modular resistor grid assemblies include a first plurality of first resistor plates having a first thickness disposed within a first housing. The first housing has a first input and output terminal. The first resistor plates provide a target electrical resistance between the first input output terminal. A second plurality of second resistor plates having a second thickness smaller than the first thickness is disposed within a second housing. The second housing has a second input and output terminal. The second resistor plates provide the target electrical resistance between the second input and output terminal. The first and second housing interchangeably couple to a resistive braking system. The first plurality includes a first number of first resistor plates, and the second plurality includes a second number of second resistor plates less than the first number.

The system includes: a resistor grid electrically coupled to a motor of an electric drive machine; a fan coupled to the resistor grid, the fan operable in two or more operation modes; a control circuit comprising one or more processors and memory structured to store instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the control circuit to: determine a cooling load for the resistor grid; determine a target fan speed according to the cooling load for the resistor grid and a selected operation mode from the two or more operation modes of the fan; and provide an output corresponding to the target fan speed to the fan.
