Antistatic, fabric softening and soil release promoting compositions are disclosed which comprise nonionic detergent, soil release promoting agent of the PET-POET type, and a certain type of silicone polymer (designated Type X or Silicone X). Such compositions very preferably also include cationic fabric softener (CFS), polyacrylate, silicone glycol copolymer (SGC), and builder for the nonionic detergent, with adjuvants being optional.Also within the invention are compositions that comprise only some of the mentioned components, and such compositions may be employed as wash cycle additives to improve the properties of detergent compositions and of softergent compositions. Processes for manufacturing and using the invented compositions are also disclosed.

A free flowing phosphate-free particulate heavy duty laundry detergent is comprised of particles of a mixture of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate having nonionic detergent in the interior and on the surface thereof, to which is adhered a coating of smaller particles of ion exchanging zeolite. The product made is exceptionally free flowing and, although the particles are relatively large, is also of high bulk density (over 0.6 g./cc.). Also within the invention is a method of making such products by contacting the particles of mixed sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate with a normally liquid or pasty nonionic detergent in the liquid state so that the detergent is largely absorbed by the particles and coats the surfaces thereof, which are then coated with powdered zeolite which adheres to the surface nonionic of the particles and makes them free flowing.

Also within the invention is a method of making such a product by pre-mixing spray dried sodium tripolyphosphate particles and smaller zeolite particles and admixing with them, as by spraying, in liquid form, onto moving particles, a normally liquid or pasty nonionic detergent, such as a higher fatty alcohol polyethylene oxide condensation product, which penetrates the sodium tripolyphosphate particles and adheres zeolite particles to the surfaces thereof.

Stable, fabric softening compositions having improved dispersibility in cold water are provided comprising a cationic quaternary ammonium softener as the sole fabric softening agent and an organic, anionic sulfonate, the weight ratio of cationic softener to anionic sulfonate being from about 80:1 to 3:1 and preferably 50:1 to 4:1 and more preferably 40:1 to 5:1. The presence of the cationic softener material in the described excess quantities assures a softening composition in the form of a stable, opaque, homogeneous liquid which is readily dispersible in water and having excellent softening properties with respect to various types of textile products.

A free flowing, particulte detergent-softener of high bulk density is comprised of nucleus particles of builder salt, preferably a mixture of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate, having nonionic detergent in the interior and on the surface thereof, to which is adhered a coating of smaller particles of ion exchanging zeolite, and quaternary ammonium halide fabric softening compound. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the quaternary ammonium halide is "insulated" from immediate contact with laundry when the detergent-softener is added to the wash water by being added to the nucleus particles with the nonionic detergent, after which the resulting particles are coated with the zeolite powder. In another embodiment of the invention the product described is further coated with nonionic detergent and zeolite.

A fabric softening and fluffing particulate detergent composition comprises a detersive proportion of an anionic synthetic organic detergent, such as sodium linear higher alkylbenzene sulfonate, a building proportion of a builder for the detergent, such as sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium carbonate and/or sodium silicate, a fabric softening proportion of bentonite, and a softening and fluffing proportion of a magnesium salt, which is at least slightly water soluble, such as magnesium sulfate. The basic detergent composition, containing the detergent and builder, sometimes with inert filler and preferably with desirable adjuvants, is preferably in the form of spray dried beads, and the bentonite and magnesium salt are preferably agglomerated together to particles of about the same size as the spray dried beads, and are mixed with the spray dried beads.The invention also relates to the mentioned agglomerate and to processes for making the detergent composition and the agglomerate.

A wash cycle fabric softening composition contains a water soluble organic cationic fabric softening agent and a water insoluble molecular sieve zeolite, usually in a weight ratio of 1:1 to 1:20. The composition effectively softens fabrics, reduces or eliminates static cling and is compatible with organic detergents, providing an excellent building effect, in detergent-softener combinations, even with wash waters of high calcium hardnesses and has good, low residue deposition characteristics. The composition may also contain a water soluble organic detergent and/or a bleaching agent.
