    摘要: The invention is an apparatus configured to provide self-alignment in use when measuring the print quality of an encoded indicium. The apparatus is configured to exclude ambient light, and to align an encoded indicium located at a first aperture defined in a first surface of the apparatus with an imager positioned at a second aperture defined in a second surface of the apparatus. A source of illumination is provided to illuminate the encoded indicium during an interval when the encoded indicium is undergoing a verification process. An illumination control is provided to control the source of illumination. The apparatus can be controlled using a computer and a computer program recorded on a machine-readable medium.

    摘要: A hand-held instrument for reading a bar code symbol obtains print quality parameters by analyzing a signal resulting from code reading, using an internal computer having memory contained in the instrument. The instrument includes a graphic display comprising a display device such as a liquid crystal having a matrix of elements arranged in areas which provide a message containing a plurality of dot matrix characters, other areas where the elements are formed into segments for display of alphanumeric characters and still other areas where the elements are formed into legends. The computer has memory for storing fixed or variable text messages which are selectively displayed depending upon the results of the print quality analysis. The display is selectively orientable (flippable) to present messages in the message area, characters in the segment area and graphics in other areas in upright position and in proper orientation for readability by use of the controls to set the display to present the messages either in left or right-handed orientation. The instrument can be handled in either the right or left hand and the display presented in readable position. The areas are arranged so as to be mirror-wise symmetric about a longitudinal axis through the instrument so that when the computer writes data into the array of the graphic driver, it is written in an orientation and ordered so that the display presents the graphics upright and in order (left to right in the American system) for viewing.

The method includes the step of scanning the bar code symbol to obtain a plurality of scan lines. Each of the plurality of scan lines includes a linear array of N-pixel values. Adjacent pixels in the linear array of N-pixel values are separated by a sample separation distance. A reconstructed scan line is generated that interleaves the N-pixel values from selected scan lines of the plurality of scan lines. A reconstructed pixel sample separation distance of adjacent interleaved pixels is an integer fraction of the pixel sample separation distance.

    摘要: A method and apparatus are provided for detecting bar-space and space-bar transitions in a bar code symbol. A sequence of sparsely sampled analog signals from a photodetector in a bar code scanner is representative of the reflectance pattern of a symbol.Following initialization, a threshold, representing the value of the analog signal at a transition point, is derived from observed samples of the bars and spaces in the bar code symbol. Sampled reflectance information is accumulated as the symbol is scanned, and a program driven microprocessor calculates and repeatedly updates this threshold, using observed maxima and minima in the analog samples, and also referencing a binary output to determine whether a bar or space is currently being viewed.When the values of two successive analog samples bracket this threshold, then a bar-space or space-bar transition has occurred. Linear interpolation is performed on the two samples to determine the transition point and an offset from the first of the two samples. After a delay corresponding to this offset, the level of a binary output is changed. A bit serial binary output is thus produced, representative of the relative widths of bars and spaces.

    摘要: There is provided a system of detecting mark-sense indicia wherein the images of a light source and the region of sensitivity of a light sensor are substantially coaxial, coplanar, and coextensive throughout the working depth of field. This system is insensitive to the laminate and the diffusion effects. A light source is aimed at a beam splitter that diverts a portion of the light beam through optics that focus the light on a reflective target containing a bar code symbol to be scanned. The reflected beam is returned through the optics and the beam splitter, and a portion of the reflected beam is conducted to a light sensor. In this manner, the light path from the detector to the optical sensor is split twice by the beam splitter. The optics are configured so that the light beams that define the field of illumination and the region of sensitivity and which pass between the optics and the target are congruent, having identical optical axes and angles of divergence.
