摘要:
The invention is a method of printing a replica of the natural iris on a contact lens. The printing is done using a rubber printing member having up raised rubber radial segments having a radius of substantially the same as the contact lens. The printing ink is applied to the radial printing segments and the rubber stamp is applied to the lens. Pressure is then applied to the rubber stamp forcing the edges of the radial printing segments to move outward moving an amount of printing ink ahead of the advancing edge. The lens is rotated and the process is repeated forming a geometric pattern resembling the human iris.

A railroad cross-tie made from sand and recycled thermoplastic containers. To practice the invention the containers made of many thermoplastic materials are granulated and mixed together. The labels and small amounts of residue from the original contents remain on the containers. Sand is dried and coated with an adhesive substance. The coated sand and recycled granulated thermoplastic plastics are mixed and heated in a compression mold to form the railroad cross-tie.

A cosmetic contact lens is made by providing an iris segment piece shaped from a polymer having a daylight fluorescent colorant dispersed on it and which has a cone shaped depression in its center. A colored transparent monomer is polymerized in this depression. The iris segment piece also has a convex cone shaped periphery that is filled in with a clear transparent monomer which is then polymerized. A contact lens is cut from the thus formed cylinder to form a contact lens having a colored transparent pupil area, a daylight fluorescent iris area and a clear transparent peripheral area.

A cosmetic contact lens is made by molding a colored cylinder with a cone shaped cavity at one end. A transparent monomer is polymerized in this cavity. The opposite end of the cylinder is cut to form a truncated cone in its outer surface. A clear and transparent monomer is polymerized to fill in the truncated cone portion of the cylinder. A contact lens is cut from the cylinder to form a lens having a colored iris area, and clear pupil and peripheral areas.

A method of making contact lens materials which are identifiable from similar contact lens materials. This is done by selecting a fluorescent colored soluble organic fluorescent dye in solid state solution in a transparent organic resin. The fluorescent color pigment is added in small amounts ranging from 0.0003 to 0.009 parts by weight of the lens monomer mixture. The lens monomer mixture containing the fluorescent dye is polymerized to form a solid contact blank. A contact lens is made from the solid polymerized blank containing the colored fluorescent dye. The contact lens convex surface is placed on a dark flat surface. In the absence of visible light the lens is irradiated with ultraviolet light. The colored fluorescent light emanating from the dye within the lens is concentrated at the lens edge by reflecting between the lens polished optical surfaces. The colored fluorescent light exits the lens at the edge. The lens material is identified by observing the color visible at the lens edge.

A method of making a spin cast contact device having a circular aperture in the center. The central aperture has a thin tapered inner edge. A spin cast concave mold having a raised central area provides the aperture with thin tapered edges. The device is a non-optical plano in the center and provides color enhancement to the eye.

A method of removing the hard xerogel spin cast lens from the concave spin cast mold by hydrating the lens in the mold. The water is removed from the concave lens surface by evaporation, the convex lens surface in contact with the lens mold retains its moisture. The drying lens having a longer convex surface and a shorter concave lens surface becomes more curved and moves away from the lens mold releasing the xerogel lens from the mold.

A method of rapidly making lenticular contact lenses having a flange thinner than the optical section of the lens and of uniform thickness regardless of refractive power.

A method of making plastic aspheric lenses by casting a liquid monomer in a container, polymerizing the monomer to form a solid having an aspheric optical surface formed within the container and cutting a second optical surface on the solid lens material with the container supporting the lens material during the cutting and polishing operation.
摘要:
A method of making plastic toric lenses by casting a liquid monomer in a container having the required toric curve on the bottom of the container, polymerizing the monomer to form a solid having a toric optical surface formed within the container and cutting a second optical surface on the solid lens material with the container supporting the lens material during the cutting and polishing operation. The container or mold used for casting the lens is made by applying pressure to two opposing sides of a heat softened resinous cylinder to change the shape of the cylinder from a circle to an ellipse, and to change the bottom shape of the cylinder from a spherical surface to a toric surface. The cylinder is then allowed to cool before the pressure is removed.
