Tubular-shaped flexible members for air springs are made of rubber or rubber-like elastomers and are reinforced by reinforcement layers. In order that the air spring flexible member can roll telescopically off a roll-off piston, the tubular-shaped flexible member sections must be brought into a slightly conical or bottle-like configuration and then vulcanized in this form. A method forms and vulcanizes an air spring flexible member blank and utilizes an apparatus which includes a mold defining a bellied inner wall defining a common hollow space for receiving the air spring flexible member blank therein. A pressure bellows unit includes a pressure bellows extending axially in the common hollow space as well as first and second end pieces joined to the pressure bellows at corresponding longitudinal ends thereof. In the method, the blank is placed over the pressure bellows and pressurized air is introduced into the interior of the pressure bellows to expand the pressure bellows thereby pressing the blank against the bellied inner wall and causing the pressure bellows to shorten. The end pieces are moved along the longitudinal axis to follow the shortening of the pressure bellows as the pressure bellows expands thereby holding a mechanical loading on the pressure bellows to a low value.

An identification device (1) for a pneumatic spring (2) includes an RFID transponder (8), which is completely embedded into the elastomer matrix (13) of the flexible member (4). An electromagnetic field is generated by a read device (9), wherein the energy necessary for supplying the RFID transponders (8) is taken from the electromagnetic field generated by the read device (9). When the read device (9) is active, information can be exchanged between the RFID transponder (8) and the read device (9). The RFID transponder (8) operates completely without an internal energy supply. The RFID transponder (8) may also be configured as a read/write transponder including a memory chip, wherein data may be stored on the memory chip in a safe and permanent manner. By retrieving data from the RFID transponder (8), an identification of the pneumatic spring (2) is possible even without any internal power supply of the RFID transponder.

The invention is directed to an air spring which supports a vehicle body on another vibrating component with an air spring flexible member which can be charged with pressurized air. The ends of the air spring flexible member are mounted air tight on respective connecting parts. One of the connecting parts is mounted on the vehicle body and the other connecting part is mounted on a vehicle component. The connecting part mounted on the vehicle component includes an elastically tied vibration absorber mass in order to reduce vibrations of the vehicle component in the resonant region.
