As a result, the controller can prevent the system from further decreasing the engine performance. And, if the engine performance increases to that or another threshold, the controller will automatically switch back to controlling the displacement for holding the motor speed at the predetermined value, optionally including to incrementally increase the speed to the predetermined value.

The distance between each of the first and second sensors and the facing outer surface of the cam changes gradually over a first major portion of the facing outer surface and sharply over a second, minor portion of the facing outer surface. The two sensors are redundant to one another and help maintain the robustness of the system.
