    摘要: A head-mounted display device (10) offers light weight, a low center of gravity, and low moments of inertia about the azimuthal and elevational axes of head movement. The display device (10) employs an angulated beam splitter mirror (16) disposed between a user's (22) eye (20) and an inner combiner surface (18a) of a visor (28). A projector (36) is carried laterally of the user's eye with a low center of gravity and a position close to the horizontal axis of elevational movement of the head. This projector (36) includes an image source (12) and an compact light-weight relay optics module (14) along with a projection fold mirror (30) disposed at eye level and laterally of the beam splitter mirror (16) to project image light to the beam splitter mirror (16). The beam splitter mirror (16) reflects the light onto the inner surface (18a) of the combiner (18) for reflection back through the beam splitter mirror (16) and to the user's eye (20). Alternative embodiments provide for color correction, or for monochrome image projection at even lighter weight. An alternative embodiment provides for both color correction and a weight nearly as light as the monochrome version by use of diffractive lenses in the relay optics module.

    摘要: An optically phased conformal antenna and photonic interconnect therefor that may be used in such microwave systems. Rows of microwave circuits are disposed on top of a cooling arrangement disposed on a curved surface. An optical ribbon cable disposed on top of the microwave circuits is employed to couple signals to the microwave circuits. Microwave antennas are disposed on top of the optical ribbon cable which has windows therein that permit welding of the antennas to the appropriate microwave circuits. Optical coupling of signals from the optical cable to the microwave circuits is achieved through the use of diffraction gratings, and the like, formed in the optical cable, in conjunction with laser diodes and detectors disposed on the chips.

    摘要: A waveguide gas laser is disclosed wherein narrow resonances in the loss vs. wavelength characteristics of a hollow waveguide laser resonator are employed to achieve wavelength selectivity. The laser includes a capillary bore waveguide of radius a and length 2L (or length L in a half-symmetric arrangement) which contains a laser gas having a laser transition capable of providing stimulated emission of light at wavelength .lambda.. The aforementioned loss resonances are achieved when the waveguide dimensions and the wavelength .lambda. are of preselected values satisfying the relation ##EQU1## where N is a positive integer.

    摘要: Laser arrangements are disclosed wherein a plurality of individual laser beams at slightly different wavelengths are generated in respective capillary bore waveguides in a common body of dielectric material. The generated laser beams are caused to converge upon a preselected intersection point, either by constructing the bore waveguides with converging longitudinal axes or by deflecting the generated laser beams into the desired converging paths by means of an optical prism. A diffraction grating is positioned at the laser beam intersection point to combine the respective laser beams emitted from the bore waveguides into a composite beam along a coincident path.
