Abstract:
Presented herein are methods for budgeting power during a power-on self-test (POST) sequence. A determination is made for one or more stages of a power-on-self-test sequence of a system, whether a power profile of a particular stage is greater than a power budget for that stage. The power profile specifies a maximum power consumption as determined by the characteristics of the system and the power budget specifies a power consumption currently allocated to the system. When the power profile is greater than the power budget for that stage, power consumption of the system during the power-on-self-test sequence is limited such that the system does not consume more power than specified by the power budget.
Abstract:
This disclosure describes techniques for interoperability of a blade server in a server chassis, where IOMs of the server chassis do not provide dedicated pins for communicating a physical slot ID to the blade server. BMCs of the blade servers and CMCs of IOMs of the server chassis are mutually configured to broadcast Ethernet frames on layer 2 network segments over a broadcast domain configured by a switch module connected to the blade servers over layer 2 network segments; conduct a slot inference communication protocol using these Ethernet frame broadcasts to enable the CMC to determine a physical slot ID in response to a BMC request, and broadcast that physical slot ID back to the BMC; and use a public certificate-private certificate pair, based in a hardware root of trust, to enforce security of this communication protocol.
Abstract:
Techniques are provided for preconfiguring hardware prior to BIOS boot up, and in particular, accessing a Basic Input Output System (BIOS) feature descriptor in the BIOS read only memory area, the BIOS feature descriptor comprising information associated with a BIOS of the server; and utilizing the BIOS feature descriptor, prior to boot up operations of the server, to configure hardware of the server.
Abstract:
A method for ensuring secure access by a debugger to a privileged debug service for trouble shooting a product of a customer during a debug session is disclosed. Secure access is provided via an intermediate SID server. The method includes invoking a secure login process for accessing the privileged debug service, resulting in generation of a challenge string to be provided to the SID server upon determining that the customer has authenticated and has the rights for granting access to the privileged debug service. The method also includes receiving from the debugger a response string indicating that the debugger has successfully authenticated with the SID server, validating the response string, and providing the debugger with access to the privileged debug service by receiving input from the debugger indicating one or more commands/actions to be executed on the privileged debug service and executing the indicated commands/actions on the privileged debug service.
