    摘要: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for controlling at least one readout parameter of a magneto-optical domain expansion recording medium. An average detected runlength of the reading signal is monitored, and an error signal is generated on the basis of a comparison of the monitoring result with the predetermined average runlength that has been set during the encoding step. The at least one readout parameter is then controlled by means of the generated error signal. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a method, apparatus and record carrier wherein a runlength constraint is applied to at least one of the following quantities: mark regions and space regions in said storage layer, said runlength constraint being selected to keep an accumulated runlength deviation from a predetermined average runlength within a predetermined range. The proposed runlength property and control scheme provide the advantage that all detected runlengths contribute to the error signal to make the response must faster and to reduce readout errors.

The drive has a rotatable axle (7) and holding means (6) for holding a disc (2, 136) so that the normal of the disc is essentially parallel to the axle. A tilt mechanism is arranged at the holding means for tilting the disc. A collection unit (10) is arranged at the optical disc drive for reading information from or writing information to the disc. A servo means (132) maintains the collection unit at a distance (133) from the disc. The servo means generates a control signal (134) provided to an actuator (130) for lenses in the collection unit. The control signal has a DC component and an AC component having a periodicity corresponding to the rotational speed of the disk and an amplitude related to the distance. The control signal is fed to the tilt mechanism. The tilt mechanism is adjusted in an X-direction and a Y-direction for minimizing the amplitude of the control signal.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a method, apparatus and record carrier for controlling read-out and/or synchronization between an external magnetic field and written data during a reading operation from a magneto-optical recording medium comprising a storage layer and a read-out layer. An expanded domain leading to a pulse in a reading signal is generated in said read-out layer by copying a mark region from said storage layer to said read-out layer upon heating by a radiation power and with the aid of the external magnetic field. The waveform of the reading signal is analyzed, and the analysis result is used for correcting a phase deviation and/or for controlling a copy window size of the mark copying. Phase errors can thus be corrected for any size of the copy window. Even small changes in the copy window can be detected and corrected.

A quality indicator processor (111) determines a quality indicator in response to the fitted distribution. In particular, the first distribution may be associated with correct sign path metric differences and the second distribution may be associated with incorrect sign path metric differences. The quality indicator processor (111) preferably determines the quality indicator in response to only the first distribution thereby reducing the degradation caused by the incorrect sign path metric differences.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a reading method and apparatus for reading a magneto-optical recording medium comprising at least one storage layer and a read-out layer, wherein an expanded domain leading to a read-out pulse is generated in the read-out layer by copying of a mark region from the at least one storage layer to the read-out layer through heating by a radiation power and with the help of an external magnetic field. A parameter indicating the presence or strength of a local deviation in the read-out characteristic of the recording medium is determined during a reading operation, and the radiation power is then controlled on the basis of on the determined parameter. The proposed procedure can be used during a read-out operation based on a reflected power, read-out error, or phase error. Hence, a fast and efficient power control mechanism that can be independent of a copy window control mechanism is provided. Moreover, crosstalk between first and second storage layers can be prevented by keeping the read-out temperature close to the compensation temperature of the other storage layer which is not read.
